Being born in 1945, WWII was very much alive in conversations around our house in my early years and I became fascinated with the history. My dad had a copy of “Guadalcanal Diary” by Richard Tregaskis. I read it many times.
I found this video on the coast watchers of the Solomon Islands just fascinating. It is hard to fathom such brave souls as well as the islanders that assisted them and not just the intelligence they provided but the brave sailors and airmen they saved.

I finished watching All's Quiet on the Western Front last night. WWI. The fist half was slow moving. The 2nd half was very moving. cinematography was terrific.
