You've just received the award from the Soundhole for "most former classmates who have run for President twice."

The fact that she had a "major announcement" coming came up lately in an email exchange among high school friends I'm still in touch with. There were 111 addressees. I stopped at saying that I wished her well as a person. Here I'll add that I think it's good to have the entire spectrum represented in the primary. It keeps the candidate in line. It gives the candidate a preview of the range of viewpoints in the country. I suspect that if another left winger she respects enters the race, she'll drop out. But I wouldn't be surprised if she stayed in until she doesn't make the first cut.

What the hell is going on?
(I have a sudden empathy for Todd. Who? What? Where? Why? Who and What, again.)

Yes. I'm the one who first mentioned it in the last election cycle so it's fair for others here to mention it. This is the internet, though. I don't want her to think I'm somehow trading on the connection so I'll bow out.

We'll all assume that it was long enough in the past that your wife has no issues with it...

"We'll all assume that it was long enough in the past that your wife has no issues with it..."
My wife has socialized with many of my old flames. It doesn't bother her. About six weeks back, my wife and I had brunch with a woman who played a formative role in that aspect of my life. My wife knew that. I have kept her away from the women I think she would actively dislike.

And the knowing glances, snorting, and giggling doesn’t bother you?

"And the knowing glances, snorting, and giggling doesn’t bother you?"
Those have been confined to a few emails by playful spirits after a visit, which I appreciate but delete and don't share.

I am thoroughly confused and won't ask anyone to take the time for an explanation. If you would have run twice, Don, I would have voted for you twice.

I think that we should make it three of Don's classmates to throw a hat into the ring. Don for Pres, Don for Pres, Don for Pres, Don for Pres, Don for Pres, Don for Pres! Thoughtful, knowledgeable, considerate, and wise.
Are you ready, Don?

You're lucky. Whenever my wife gets together with a couple of my ex's, there lots of pointing and laughing and jokes like "could be used as an egg timer", and then more laughing.

"Don for Pres...."
Thanks. Nothing stands in my way except my inability to get any party's nomination, my utter lack of desire to do the job, my age, my life expectancy and the fact that I ran for state legislature once and hated running.
A fellow debater from high school, Lee Kaplan, is currently running for mayor of Houston. I think he's a year younger than I am. He called a couple of days back and mentioned that he was having fun running for office. Lee and I are very different people.

Running for the Presidency seems to be what one does in his dotage these days. You just let “your people” take care of everything and just get in the limo when it show up to collect you. You’re too young to be the oldest President but you could easily be the smartest.

I suspect not. It might surprise people to learn that the smartest President in an SAT sense was probably Jimmy Carter. It takes more than SAT smarts to be successful in the job.
