Covid killed him, as I recall. Which reminds me...we're having another surge. How is it there? To the extent you know without looking anything up.

My wife got it two weeks ago. She has all the risk factors, diabetics, RA, hypertension etc. Fortunately she did not get severely ill but it has completely wiped her out. Lost her taste too. She got Paxlovid right away. She tests negative now but I think has a long road ahead getting her energy back.
Strange thing is we weren’t really in any high risk situations the week before and I never got it. Weird.
I talked to a gal that manages the wine bar where we play last night. She was in a high risk environment throughout the whole pandemic working with employees and customers that later got it but squeaked through. Fascinating bug.

"Fascinating bug." I'm ready to quit being fascinated.

Hands down, my favorite Prine song is "Hello In There". And my favorite association with that song was sitting between Twinsfan and LJ with Matt Fox's Guild 12 string in may lap and playing it while Jim and LJ sang it in perfect harmony.
I remember the first time I heard Bette Midler's mindblowingly perfect take on it. It was at once familiar and yet as if I'd never before heard it.

Dennis O'Neil used to sing that one too.

I loved that song the first time I heard it. I never put much credence into a music video, but that video nailed it. Now I Love the song that much more.

That’s funny, the Gillian and David version just popped up on my playlist in the shop today. Always stops me in my tracks. It is so powerful, just a masterpiece.

I sat at a picnic table with Larry Bister on Saturday afternoon of his last IJam, when he seemed perfectly healthy. He did a wonderful impromptu version of Hello in There.

Saw John years ago at the St Johns Swayed Pines Fiddle fest in MN. He was the evening headliner. Apparently he had recently gotten divorced as he talked about it a little. I never forgot one quip. Something like-
"I went home and built that model railroad she'd never let me build. I nailed the tracks right to the dining room table -- cause I could."

I play Hello in There and Spanish Pipedream every gig I do. And never apologize for either.
