Yeah, I did it again. I ordered another guitar. . . . , You see I'm not really thrilled with the RainSong. I mean I like it. But the 20" radius fingerboard really causes me mild problems. Especially when switching back and forth tween my Eastman, my Nick Lucas, and the RainSong. It's never going to be my No. 1 guitar. And as a roll player (for temp and humidity concerns) it's pretty good, but the fingerboard makes chord grabs slightly different and thus mildly problematic (instead of automatic). But I really do want a non-wood guitar for the inclement conditions that I can just pick up and play. Along comes the Blackbird Savoy guitar. Its a linen and resin material. Video clips make it sound more mellow and wood-like than the RainSong. The RS is not as warm as my woodies. Maybe the Blackbird will be more so. And the Blackbird Savoy has a 24.5 scale and a 16" fingerboard radius. Plus a traditional center soundhole unlike funky CF guitars like Emerald et al. Another interesting thing is the overall length is 36" which is 5/8" less than my GS-Mini travel guitar (with a 22.5" scale). So the possibility is, if the BB Savoy works well for me, I can sell both the RainSong and the GS Mini, and it could be both a weather guitar and a travel guitar. The price ain't cheap. It goes for $2.7k. That's more than cheapskate me has ever spent. But there's a good probability I can recoup 3/4 or more of that cost in reselling the RS & GS. Of course there's the possibility that the BB Savoy will not satisfy me any more than what I already have. If that turns out to be the case, I'll sell the BB Savoy. There's a 6 month wait to have the thing made. So I wont receive it till Fall. But the wait time should make it easier to re-sell the thing, if I decide not to keep it. PS - I've already got plans (if I really like it) to do a light spray sunburst on it. **chuckle-chuckle**

Oh, and I can take the Skysonic Pro-1 I presently have in the GS-mini and install it in the Savoy. I've got a nice Fishman rare Earth pickup in my gear box that I can put in the GS-mini for resale. That way I won't have to buy a new pickup either.
Should be fun.
(And I would remove the vinyl cover on the RainSong before selling it. I like it, but probably most people would balk at that.)

Linen & Resin handled my divorce in 1989. As far as lawyers go, they were not totally despicable and they paid for coffee once when we met to discuss things at the Sip & Go Coffee-a-torium. They billed me for the bagel, though.

Well, the RS doesn't have those blue pills that you take.

Does linen mean it has to be dry cleaned?

It’s a 12 fret guitar. It does have a cutaway, though. I thought I recalled you saying you didn’t like 12 fret guitars. I may be wrong, of course. I like 12 fret guitars, myself.

I don't like 12 frets, because I play a few songs with grabs above the 12th fret. So the cutaway solves that dilemma. The RainSong is also a 12 fret with a cutaway. I do have a little trouble adjusting between the 12 fret neck and a 14 fret neck when I reach up for the 10th or 12th frets. The visual difference can make me hesitate. But I usually mess around with the guitar I'm going to play out with beforehand to reacquaint myself with some tricky grabs.

Sounds nice, but this guy claims the scale length is 23.8? And the off-camera dude says it's a $2,000 guitar and it has a sunburst? I yam confused.

Let me know before you sell the RS what you might be selling it for.

Interesting. Blackbird was I believe the first carbon fibre company, making mainly travel guitars. They had a shape a bit like an old fashioned lute. I thought about 1, but they were twice the price of the Cargo.
Looks like a nice little guitar, Marshall. I’ve always said if I was gigging, I’d use a CF guitar. So much more durable.

(That's the guy from the "The Ukulele Site" store in Hawaii) The web site says 24.5”. The web site has the new pricing. I checked with “dealers” but nobody seems to have any. The local Chicago dealer says they’re not carrying them now. The sunburst is about a $550 extra option on the website.

I think they are giving up on CF mostly. This new material is more wood-like, if you believe their storyline. They make a bigger model, the El Capitan, that is listed at $5k. It’s a jumbo body with a 25.5 scale.

I also asked about the neck profile. She said it’s a D shape. The dimensions are smaller than old Gibsons. She said it’s more like new Gibsons. I’ve played those and they are OK. She said they’re definitely not like a Taylor neck. Though I’m OK with my Taylor GS Mini neck.

When I was at guitar schools, one of the alums who worked at Blackbird was visiting. I suggested that their guitars would make excellent acoustic lap steels; he acted like it was an idea they hadn't thought of.

Blackbird ukes have a decent reputation in the uke world.

The first I had seen was the early Rainsong guitars with no bracing whatsoever. Rainsong claimed they didn't need it and engineering wise that's true. But they sounded like a cardboard box with strings. I think they and other makers figured out pretty quickly that to get it to sound like a guitar you had to make the top move like a guitar top. Putting a few braces in there made a big difference. Cargos are braced but it's flat braces that have been covered and you have to have good feel around inside to tell. Our girls are over here and playing Mario Kart on the NES with Grandma. I have the office door mostly closed so I can hear myself think and both cats have retreated in here for the same reason.
