Oh My Goodness. Some little team (literally, the smallest/shortest team in the tourney) from somewhere in New Jersey that no one outside of Jersey has ever heard of just knocked off #1 Seed Purdue (and their 7'3" giant).
A #16 seed knocked off a #1 seed for only the second time in history. And now Purdue has been sent home for the second year in a row by double digit, huge underdog, seed. (Man, I am glad I am not a Purdue fan).
Cheers to FDU! (whoever the hell they are)

I think FDU won by 28 against the spread.

I'm proud to say I picked FDU knock off Purdue in my bracket.
.
(I fill out my bracket's round after each round is completed. Trying to pick the winners ahead of time is a fool's game.)

It's like the team with nothing to lose is the first to grasp the situation and take advantage of it. Purdue blinked and FDU saw it.

I don't watch college basketball but I think I remember hearing about FDU doing something similar years ago like maybe '80 or '90-something. Guys at work talked about it for awhile. Anybody hee remember them for some win?

My company set up an internal bracket competition so I decided to play this year. I was listening to one of my favorite shows on Sirius, "The Catholic Guy" and they made thier picks of the 7 Catholic schools in the tournament so I decided to do my bracket based on that first, then the Big Ten second, and then whatever sounded good after that.
That gives me Creighton, Xavier, Marquette, and some small number 5 seed called Saint Mary's in California as the ultimate champion as my Final Four.
So far I started Thursday ranked 34th of 37 and now I'm up to 19 with my Final Four intact.
Go St. Mary's!

Now that I'm not in Newfolden as much, I no longer fill out a bracket at the Hobo Haus. It was fun and I miss the joshing and trash talk and all the little side bets. I still fill out a bracket, but now it's just me and Casper, and as we both cheat, there's no way to "one up" one another or win any money on the side.

FDU gave it a good go game 2, but ran out of gas.
-per Bruce: Last Friday was FDU's first win in the NCAA tournament (proper, they had won two tournament "play in" games in the 90s in order to earn the right to enter the 64 team field). FDU's complete NCAA tournament record is now 1-7.
There are a lot of "initial" teams that can easily confused. For example, last night, FDU lost to FAU.

Yeah, they’re the only ones still in it. And they barely made the tournament.

Just realized I haven't watched the NCAA tournament for almost 10 years now. Hard to believe as for something like 30 years I was *all in* on NCAA basketball. Unplug the phone, stop shaving, nothing to eat but pizza for a month, and emerge pasty white with my hair sticking up some time in April. Some time in about 1980 I turned a TV on one Saturday in Kenai and watched Darrell Griffith of the Louisville Cardinals do a 360 dunk and became a fan. Ewing. Clyde The Glide, Shaq, Hakeem, James Worthy & Jordan, The Fab Five, NC States buzzer beater, Laetners turn around jumper at the buzzer. I would still say it's the best sports spectacle on TV. I've just seemingly lost interest. I blame it on the ******* horses.

In 1985, my first year with a law firm, I was pressured into betting on the NCAA. I had never followed college ball. A law partner let me use his chart, which I copied, except for the final winner. I won the pool and was able to finally afford a new, cheap, suit that I wore for the next 10 years.

Terry, my boss is a Creighton grad. Strangely enough, she and my wife lived in the same small Iowa town for a time (my boss until college, my wife for a year). They both have a taste for Sterzing's chips.
