Marking the birthday of my late first-born dottir, Erica Jeanne. She was such a wonderful person, beloved by all, it would seem. Hard to believe she would be 39 today, deep sigh. Miss you, honey. You are in my thoughts Bill. Thanks much, Terry, you and others here know what it's like.

We have been packing up our kitchen and dining area for the last week—our long-awaited kitchen renovation (four years since inception, stalled by the Coop Board and the pandemic) begins on Tuesday. This week they will be doing the demolition. And yes, we will be living in the apartment through it all. The contractors predict at least 40 work days for the work to be finished. Hoo boy. Busy schedule today. Have a good one, everybody. How’s that wrk, Howard? It isn’t a rental apartment is it? I assume it’s a condo and you own it. Does the Coop board also have rights of refusal of whom you sell to? Good luck.
It's a coöperative apartment, Marshall, in a building of 75 units of various sizes. We own shares in a corporation, which we paid for when we purchased in 2003. It's kind of like Capitalist Socialism—like a commune, we invest together and everyone is responsible for monthly maintenance fees, which pay for operating costs, building employee salaries, property tax, et al, to cover the building's expenses. The Board (made of elected shareholders like us) gets involved because there are certain standards, building codes, and whatnot that must be maintained, so our plans were submitted to a third-party engineering company for review. Once approved, we can proceed with our renovation. The person who lived here before had been renting from the landlord (Sponsor) since 1943. Meanwhile, the building had gone coöp. When she died, the Sponsor did some basic cosmetic cleanup with the cheapest Home Depot garbage his undocumented laborers could find, and we have been living with that crap for almost 20 years.
We will likely have two months of irritating inconvenience, but when it's finished, we'll have a grown-up kitchen.
