As cool as the guitar is, part of me thinks that the variety of sounds it produces are the result of signal processing, starting with things like pickup and amp design, including arcane matters such as the nature of the particular components in the signal chain. But aside from the effects based on no-longer-available items, I can't see why the same sounds can't be produced by a modern instrument. The amp may be a more significant component than the signal-generator--I mean, the guitar--since more of its complex machinery might depend of unobtanium-based materials. (And how much of the characteristic signal-processing is now available via digital emulation?)
But what do I know--I'm still trying to get my archtops to sound like John Pizzarelli's.
The demonstrator-guy's playing is pretty impressive--an anthology of rock sounds and styles.

Yeah, but is your fretting original or recently renewed?

I have had a few replaced, but they are mostly original.

So you're OK for fretting. Now what about strutting? And do you observe the hour on-stage limit? Will we hear you no more?
(Though since you're anything but a poor player, nothing here should signify.)

I strut no more. I tend to sashay.

Yes it would be nice to hear the guitar, not the processing. Like straight into a 51 tweed amp.
