An email from administration regarding teacher appreciation week:
May 8 – May 12, 2023!! Only one of the most important weeks of the year!! Without a doubt. National Teacher Appreciation Week! When we recognize our outstanding athletes whether at the collegiate level or the professional level; Nobel Peace Prize winners are recognized; Grammy Award nominees and winners; successful CEOs and CFOs and successful entrepreneurs. Disc jockeys, doctors, lawyers, plumbers, carpenters masonry workers, each and every one has something in common. They have teachers and school staff to thank for teaching them and encouraging them to become the best version of themselves that they can. It may have been the science teacher, the bus driver, the PE teacher or the janitor. One just never knows when what they do will have a dramatic impact on someone else. ISD and IESBVI are fortunate to have such high quality, dedicated and caring faculty and staff.
IESBVI and ISD administration collectively extends our gratitude and appreciation for all you do to provide opportunities for the students and their families. The children we serve will have a brighter future because of the work you do.
We know that sometimes the recognition for your work can be overlooked. It has been a pleasure to work with all of you this year. This week and every day please know that you are appreciated.
Thank you,

Todd, I love the sentiment. A few days ago I visited with a couple of my HS teachers, now long retired from teaching. And I was also traveling with a retired teacher. All three are great listeners and communicators. I wish they were still teaching. The world would be a better place.
I suspect that you, along with the other teachers on this board, are great at your craft.

I appreciate all my teachers from my grade school French teacher, Madam Andre, to my collitch philosophy teacher, Mr Dejardins. They opened my eyes and broadened my view I am deeply indebted to each of them. Thank you. Doc

Chapeau Todd, several of my teachers were major role models for me. The trumpet player in our group was a teacher in our local high school from about 1963 till he retired. There is almost always someone that comes up to him during a gig to tell him they were his student and how much they enjoyed his classes. I joke with him that most of them are using walkers or in wheelchairs.

It's sad whoever drafted the note didn't retain the punctuation and grammar lessons taught to him or her in his or her youth.
And I'm pretty sure "whoever" is correct, rather than "whomever."

Oh yes, and my list of favorite teachers starts with my two grandmothers; mother, father, stepmother and stepfather; sister-in-law and two nieces. The list expands for the many family friends I knew growing up, and continues to grow with the people I know, such as Todd. I have great respect for most all teachers and am amazed at the number of them who still decide the rewards of teaching outweigh all the shit.

Nice, congratulations.
Unfortunately, the job is changing in ways that make it less attractive. Nancy, a retired 34 year special ed teacher, wouldn't do it again. Paperwork, bureaucracy, parental fears of what their children are being taught, some real and some imagined, in some cases, resistance to their children being taught at all, legislatures, such as Indiana's, passing laws that can send librarians to jail for not scrubbing their libraries of books on controversial subjects, all demoralize teachers and discourage recruits.

Todd cries at the drop of a hat. I know. I dropped a hat once in front of him.

I hope you good folks realize that I posted this in a spirit of mirth. An email is even cheaper than a certificate of appreciation. Very frugal school system.

I was suspicious from the start. I figured Todd wrote it himself.

I had a tears in my eyes as I read this, wondering why I was so emotional, then I realized I was eating an onion.

I was tearing up, too, but then realized I was using a homonym while shredding some documents.
