On This Day:
1568 Defeated at the Battle of Langside, Mary Queen of Scots flees to England in the hope Elizabeth I will help her regain her throne, who instead detains her at Carlisle Castle.
Have a good one and don't get detained!

Good morning. We'll have 70s-90s. Today I'll do a little driving to get back in practice and assemble a battery-powered string trimmer. Not much else on the agenda. Enjoy your day.

Beautiful morning here. Coffee going down, getting ready to travel to Vinton for a haircut and some groceries. I'll be feasting on morels today.
No music practice today, so I'll probably go shopping this afternoon.

Bonny and I are nearing the end of our 23 in 3 tour. It has been the most WONDERFUL experience. I truly love playing senior facilities and watching people clap and sing along. I’ve worked at these facilities for most of my career and I know how boring the days can be. I am happy to be a part of brightening the days for the residents. I always leave feeling like we have done something good. I like that feeling. The other good thing is that we have been rebooked at most of the facilities. We will be doing this all again in the Fall.
With Memorial Day nearing, I thought today would be a good day to break out the Military Medley and play it at the next few shows. I think they will love that.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good morning.
54F-82F sunny.
Nice morning to do errands. First go feed kitties next door, Shawn and Angie are gone for a few days. Then the butcher shop for a couple of ribeyes. Zaria is having dinner with us on Wednesday and we thought she would like a steak since big sister is vegan and she doesn't get much meat at home. Then the Pharmacy/grocery and just might wind up at the hardware store. If I do all that I won't have to go anywhere tomorrow. But that will probably mean no shop time as I'll need a nap.

Finished the season of The Diplomat last night. Solid B+. You can tell the writer did Homeland, the end of season one left you falling off a cliff.
Spectacular day here as was yesterday. Getting very vert.

Sunny, pleasant day weatherwise.
Running a few errands thence headed downtown to the Gerald R Ford Presidential Museum to take in an exhibit "America at the Crossroads; The Guitar and a Changing Nation". It has been there since January, I gotta get there before it closes on May 28.

Spectacular day here as was yesterday. And the low humidity! Just delightful. Hope the pollinators are digging my fields of gold (my Chemlawn'ed neighbor, not so much).

So…back to Kaiser for another blood draw today. Yesterdays hbA1c values moved me from pre-diabetic to diabetic and my primary wants another test before I see her on Thursday. I had hoped to move the needle in the opposite direction, after losing five lbs on the Hawaii trip. Also picked up new glasses yesterday and the left lens is not correct, so they will be going back today. Coffee with old farts too.
This getting old is getting old.

My thighs are barking at me. I wrestled a 4x4 post out of the ground a couple of days ago. I won, but just barely. Sitting at a desk every day has not put me in good wrestling condition.
Another 85 F day here. The predicted downpour/flooding did not arrive yesterday.

I'll be eating off the land for supper tonight. Smoked deer brats from the guy who hunts in our backyard, wild asparagus from near out house, and oyster mushrooms a friend found. I have yet to find a morel, but I'll survive.

Stuff that grows by the outhouse might not be what you should pick. True, there can be kind of a crappy aftertaste.

Yesterday C. did a reading at a local nursing home--the last of a set she committed to as the promote-the-arts part of last year's state-arts-grant duties. It's a bit uncanny, a 77-year-old reading to a nursing-home audience, and yesterday's was a notch more so, since it was at a memory-care unit. Nevertheless, all but one of the half-dozen women who showed up (no men in sight) were quite aware of their surroundings and seemed to enjoy the stories (which were about, among other things, aging and loss), and they were even more engaged when we sat through lunch with them.
They all knew that they had memory issues, but they all also had entirely intact personalities. Of course, we were seeing some of the least-affected residents. But it was oddly like any other encounter with our near-contemporaries. One in particular came across as an escapee from the cast of the Britcom "Waiting for God"--"They don't give us knives in here," she said. "But you can do a lot of damage with a fork."

It is a very nice day for Iowa.
I've been going to a few jams with other people at a local American legion on Sundays. It's always nice to play with a few different people on occasion.
I'm training a new apprentice at the shop and it is already wearing me out. Hope to have the energy to make it to Todd's open mic this week.
