By 64-year-old brother in-law, British until yesterday (Scotish) , passed his American citizenship test yesterday. I took the following random sample test twice and I passed both times but not at 100%. Here's a link: civicsquestions.com/ Your ability to pass this depends on honesty, of course it doesn't give you the answers but it gives a good idea of what these tests are like. I can see how taking this test not having grown up schooled in the US could require ahead of time prep. If I was to take such a test to gain citizenship anywhere else, I'd be doing a lot of studying.

Don’t let your Scottish brother-in-law find out you referred to him as British. I’m sure he’d be highly insulted.

VI, I took the test. I passed at 80% but I’m protesting on e of the questions. I was asked one thing Ben Franklin was known for. Well, everyone knows he was a very reckless kite flier. Almost got himself kilt for it. And thar Wasn’t the answer! Who designed this test anyway. 🤬

We went to Scotland with a group in the early 80’s. All Americans save one guy from London. In hotels, stores, and restaurants they couldn’t have been friendlier to us but as soon as they heard his accent the temperature dropped to sub zero.

I could never become a citizen because I couldn't figure out how to answer the questions. When I couldn't find a place to type them in I even tried saying the answer aloud. Nada.
My nephew, Peter, did the opposite last year an became a British citizen.

Technically, yes, but don’t ever tell a Scot that. Scotland views Briton as an occupying oppressor. A huge percentage of Scots want to declare independence.

I think more than half of Texans want independence while about 80% of the people in the other 49 states want Texas to have it 😉

There's still a lot of sentiment for independence in Scotland. They feel like they got screwed with Brexit. Their vote was strongly against it. (I've got a lot of Scot in me.)

When I was in TX last year on a hiking trip, we met a nice couple from the Brownsville area that was passing thru the Big Bend park on their way to see family in AZ. Both they and we realized our politics weren’t going to be aligned. But we avoided most stuff and got along fine talking about family stuff. Then at one point the woman commented, “Why do all TV commercials have to show minorities? Don’t they know this is a White country?”
We stood silent for a while, and then said “Goodbye. Have a nice trip.”

I'm still only US. I may have gone for dual, but japan doesn't allow that--if you naturalize here, you have to give up any other citizenship. (An exception exists for those born into it, so our kids are duals and maintain two passports.) I do know two former US citizens in town. Tho the picture laid out in this article is not at all the reason I ended up here, I do hope that being here (sans citizenship) still puts a positive spin on my longevity--that it does have some kind of helpful impact. The average lifespan here is seven years longer than in the US.
