Joe, that should not have been your bill. He helped us all. Wish you had said something. I and others would have chipped in. I was too dense for it to occur to me.

I am more than happy to contribute for his gas and anything else, as well as contribute to anyone else who lends a hand and a wallet each year.

Yes, we need to compensate him in some way. And somehow we'll come up with an idea on how to go about it. I'm in.
Now that it's been mentioned, we know it will happen.

Friday night will be at the Farmer's Merc in Garrison, the place will be open at 5:00. No concert, just us getting together. Last year we walked down the street and had dinner at the Hitchin' Post. This year she is on vacation, so BBQ will be brough to the Merc. Pulled pork, beef brisket, buns slaw and cornbread. I'll probably bring some beans since beans are good.
$15 a plate, I'll pay the guy ahead of time, so pay me for the meal. I have no idea how to do paypal or any electronic transaction so cash please.
The sound guy has been taken care of so no worries on that.

Anybody bringing drinkables for Friday night? If I can figure out how to keep it cold, I can supply some genuine St. Cloud-brewed growlers from Beaver Island--or something more conventional but still Minnesotan (Surly comes to mind). Not sure what local regulations might apply to a private party in a public space.

I really enjoyed some of the St. Cloud brews in previous years. I will bring some Michigan brews. I don't think the gendarmes who patrol Garrison will object. Ruffians that we are, Todd and I slurped down some fine Pilsners on the Garrison sidewalks last year.

Isn't there a refrigerator in the mercantile kitchen?

Indeed, there is a fridge. I stored my beverages there on Saturday night, so they were still cold when I got back to the Cobblestone.
And Russell, I don't think the Merc would be considered a public space? It's a private venue, and not technically open to the public on Friday night (although who would we turn away? Maybe the young woman who was very interested in talking to Bill last year - but I think we'd let her hang around as long as she wanted, too).

We've got to be careful of refrigerator space on Saturday night. This is when the library ladies bring in their stuff, and they always (and rightly) assume the fridge will be available.

I was mostly thinking of the challenge of keeping growlers cool on the five-hour drive to Vinton. The question of the status of the Mercantile re: alcohol was more idle, though liquor-licensing regs can have some odd twists.

We’ve now made reservations at the Cobblestone for Friday and Saturday nights. I usually put this off in case any last-minute out-of-towners need a room.
If you need a room and can’t get one, let me know.
