We originally joined to get the United healthcare supplement. I never read the AARP publication. Now Blue Cross Blue Shield offers supplemental coverage that is just as good as the united healthcare variety so we switched. I have to dictate this, so please forgive any typos.

When the time comes, consider picking up a new Martin guitar, a coupon for a free year's AARP membership comes with it.
Plus they include lots of coupons with great discounts for various denture products, hearing aids, and various fiber supplements.

(the "plus there is a free year of AARP membership included with every new Martin" line was stolen from some clever fellow on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. It won the day during one of the many Martin vs Taylor battle threads. I must of read that quip maybe ten years ago, but it was slipped in so drolly and struck so well, I still recall it fondly. And use it whenever I can.
(plus he didn't overplay his hand like I did with the dragging in of hearing aids and Metamucil)

Taylor’s are for young folks with no musical roots longing to be pop stars.

We've been happy with the AARP Medicare plan F and keep AARP just to keep the plan. Plan F covers the medicare deductibles which other plans don't and can't because of some change in 2015 which went into effect in 2020, I think so the only people who can get plan F already have it. Without plan F plan G which replaced it is supposedly the best to get now. Some Medicare plan C (advantage plans) are supposed to be good for some people in some places. I had a Humana Medicare Advantage plan when I first got Medicare but the deductibles and lack of willing doctors and the family plan discount on Plan F when Mary got to medicare made it better for us. Having plans A, B, D and F I rarely see a medical bill. Oh, we have VA dental too and it covers most all dental work. Compared to medical bills AARP's membership dues are chump change and the extra junk mail from AARP gets deleted quickly. I have no interest in their politics.

I have a young wife with great insurance. With any luck, I will be dead before I need to worry about Medicare and its many supplements.

I have a young wife with great insurance. With any luck, I will be dead before I need to worry about Medicare and its many supplements. Between the beer, pizza and candy I'm sure you'll have no problem reaching that goal. But how about hanging in there long enough to enjoy some of her retirement benefits.

That's what I learned, David. Don't join until you're ready for Medicare. I've got five years. Ask me again in five years and see if I remember.
