I thought it would do more. Other than detecting eye movement, it pretty much seems like having a computer monitor on your face.

The headset monitors when people enter its field of vision and that causes it to display the eyes of person wearing the headset. So they can see their eyes as they talk to them.... but they are only an image of his eyes. It also uses lidar radar to sense hand movements. Kind of like the Kinect thingy that Xbox had.

This would drive me nuts. I don't see with two eyes so depth in this context means nothing to me. It's the same reason I didn't go to theaters to see the attempted revival of 3D movies.
This will probably become a popular product but I doubt I'll ever have any interest.
Oh, I never play computer games either.

Does this work for hands-free driving? They might make for good motorcycle goggles. As long as it doesn’t rain.

Seems to me the Apple folk are working on devices that SF writers have been describing for decades: eyeglasses (or implants) that provide a computer-driven overlay on natural vision. William Gibson depicted such a system that combined geolocation and geocaching with VR imagery, so one could visit an historical site and "see" how it used to look or "witness" famous events. (My files tell me this is from Spook Country, 2007.)
Other writers have used similar device-ideas, to the point that they've become conventional furniture in many SF settings, with lines like "she blinked up his profile on her spex," which experienced readers will understand without much thought. Kinda like the famous Heinlein line, "The door irised."

I'm excited! A new way to grow brain tumors!
Apple doesn't invent; it innovates products that already exist.

I thought this was going to be like a Terminator screen The Terminator screen showed what was going on inside (analyzing visual data, outlining and categorizing). The Vision Pro does all of those things... inside. Mainly only to know when a person has entered the vision space and they can be "presented" to the viewer's inner screen when the room is being obscured by content.

I wonder how long it will be before they find an even lazier way to operate a computer.
