Why does this make me think of the Village People?

Don't bother explaining it to them John. They're just in it for cheap political laughs at the expense of "gay" guys who like to ride their motorcycles to support wounded and missing service members in their leather. Which, incidentally, is the preferred safety garb of those who ride motorcycles. Like my son in law who's a wounded veteran of campaigns in both Iraq and Afghanistan and my daughter who met her husband while both were working as prison guards. Go ahead, tell him he looks like the Village People. Just be ready to beat a hasty retreat before he cleans the floor with your scrawny butt.

I find it hard to believe that a sleeveless leather vest is going to protect the skin on his forearms and elbows if he were to dump that hog.
These are protective leathers.

Yessir, when I was in my 20s and living upstate, in Cooperstown, NY. It was a Honda 350. I did wear a leather jacket, even in July. That was like being in a sauna.
On edit: it kind of looked like this one, but not as clean.

Rather than leather(s), I thought armor was the way to go

Are you mocking me, Marshall?
That's a classic.

I know a lot of old biker dudes (my age) that look like that. I've got a nice biker leather jacket, but I rarely ride in anything but tee-shirt weather these days. (I really like that bike, Howard. Very cool in it's day.... Like you )

Thanks a lot, buddy. Keep in mind, that was 44 years ago. I may not have the same cool factor I allegedly had then, but at least I'm alive. Ha!

I had one just like it, only red, whilst in the Navy. Four years, Peter, no combat, but I'm not ashamed, at least I served.

Peter, what does that have to do with wearing leathers on a motorcycle? My joking was certainly not aimed at military veterans.
(I almost served. They ended the draft a month before my 19th birthday. I had a low number in the lottery that year, and besides, I had other plans for my life. Had I gone to Vietnam, there's no doubt in my mind that my name would be on that black wall in Washington DC. I was a 125-lb pacifist poet.)

Pence was riding in a Rolling Thunder like event looking like a gay Village People character to honor fallen veterans just like my SIL and daughter did over the Memorial Day weekend (only they rode with their comrades into DC). At a minimum, a certain amount of honorable respect is due.
