He's got a brand new vest.

Pence was riding in a Rolling Thunder like event looking like a gay Village People character to honor fallen veterans just like my SIL and daughter did over the Memorial Day weekend (only they rode with their comrades into DC). At a minimum, a certain amount of honorable respect is due. I'd have a lot more respect for Pence if HE was a veteran, but no.

Peter, what does that have to do with wearing leathers on a motorcycle? My joking was certainly not aimed at military veterans.
(I almost served. They ended the draft a month before my 19th birthday. I had a low number in the lottery that year, and besides, I had other plans for my life. Had I gone to Vietnam, there's no doubt in my mind that my name would be on that black wall in Washington DC. I was a 125-lb pacifist poet.)

Those veterans? I do respect them and what they sacrificed. My feelings about politicians are different.

Sometimes I think you're LOOKING to get offended, Peter, on behalf of any number of people/interest groups. Personally, my initial instinct is he looks dorky. But I'd probably want a closer look at what those patches represent, and I'd probably still think he looks dorky but temper my opinion. A little. I don't know if he looks gay or not, because there is no "gay" look. I don't think he looks like a Village People member, as in order to do so I think he would need to lose the shirt and probably need to be wearing short-shorts. Which would offer NO protection in the case of an accident. I looked at other images on the Roast & Ride website, and I didn't really see anyone else I would consider looking "dorky," politicians or otherwise. Sen. Grassley looks like he's ready to tackle a woodpile, for example. (Woodpike reference:)

Well, I know you weren't talking to me, as I hadn't commented yet. I was referring to your comments to Howard. I guess my only comment directly to you was the whole offended thing part of what I said. I also may be a pot in this instance.
With respect to the rest of my comment (everything past the first sentence), it was more to the community at large, Peter. You didn't bring it up the "gay" thing, except to explicitly point out what Dave was implying (at least that's what I inferred). I wasn't meaning to imply you were saying anything other than paraphrasing someone else.
And in my opinion, beyond my initial reaction of "why is he dressed like that?" A little more context would indicate Mr. Pence is wearing something along the lines of a big sign that says "I support veterans." The crowd of folks where he was understood exactly what it meant, the rest of us be danged.

The vest is a club vest. He's wearing it to promote the club's cause.

When you are a prominent anti gay politician like Pence, some teasing and ridicule is unsurprising.

I guess I am just failing to figure out what there is about this event, or what Mr. Pence is wearing, that leads to any sort of justified teasing and ridicule.
And to be clear, I like teasing and ridicule just as much as the next person who thinks he or she has found a good target - when that target's not me.

In fact, you were the one who used the word "gay" in your post at the bottom of page 1 of this thread, if I may quote: "Pence was riding in a Rolling Thunder like event looking like a gay Village People character to honor fallen veterans..."
I simply wrote "Mother let him go." Then I added the remark about the Rolling Thunder tag on his vest. I just read through this thread and did not see any instance of my using the word "gay." That was in the Photos of Bikers thread, in which I suggested that Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn on a Vespa were more badass than Mike Pence in his leather vest. (And it's still there, unedited and unrepentant, for the forum to see.)
