So I have a Martin D1 Authentic which is a 12 fret D18 historic reproduction. Super light build and no truss rod but has T frets not bar. Currently strung with lights but I had it strung with mediums for several years which may have caused the current problem. I’m getting some string buzzing under medium attack on the A and D strings in the fret 5 area. When I sight down the neck it looks to me like there is a little too much bow and it needs a minor truss rod tightening. The nut, saddle height, aren’t overly low. In fact I’d say the current set up is pretty much medium factory standard.
I think I’m gonna take it to someone local and just make sure it’s not a loose or high fret thing to solve the problem and have an actual tech verify whether the neck relief is the issue. If it turns out to be the neck relief I’m looking for some input on who to send this guitar to that would be capable of a compression refret should it come to that. I might expect to wait a few months but don’t want to send it somewhere and wait 18 months etc.
I’m thinking Mass Street or Elderly?

... Super light build and no truss rod ... When I sight down the neck it looks to me like there is a little too much bow and it needs a minor truss rod tightening. ... I'm confused. It has a truss rod, or not? And sighting down the neck, do you mean back bow, or the opposite?

Built to ‘31 Martin specs so just a fixed ebony rod internally in the neck. The bow I’m seeing is the regular forward bow that string tension puts in n a neck. The normal fix would be a slight truss rod tightening IF there was a truss rod to adjust which there isn’t.

Factory service would be great but also a lengthy wait time. I highly recommend Joe & the repair shop at Elderly. I am not sure what the turnaround time would be there. Call, talk to Joe in the repair shop, and he can advise you.

Last September the Elderly shop did some warranty work on my Farida, at the time the backlog was only 3 weeks. They have a bunch of qualified luthiers experienced in working on vintage Martins, a new Martin with vintage specs should be no problem.

If you don't mind some incidental damage, Delbert Maki is really good at bending things. Steel, wood, regulations, you name it, he can bend it. Turnaround is quick. You will have what's left of your guitar back in a couple weeks.

St. Paul Guitar Repair
They've worked on my D18 Authentic 1937 and couple other Martins. Great results, pretty quick turnaround, fine folks. Kottke uses them.

Those are two stores that probably have the staff to do the repair in a decent amount of time. I don't even think Gryphon's accepting repairs right now.
By the way, FRICKIN' COOL guitar you have.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's still pretty playable as is so I'll think it over but I think I'd like to get it done before it gets too cold to ship.
I realized after I posted that either Terry or Marty are capable but Marty seems like he's still digging out and I wasn't sure if Terry did repairs in addition to building. So apologies for the oversight.

So apologies for the oversight. Not me please. I'm shying away from major work theses days and I have a very long client list that brings me the usual stuff. I don't even see people by appointment anymore, if you are not on my client list you can't even call me. Age and injury have caught up with me. If Terry has time great, otherwise St. Paul Guitars do great work and are the CF Martin warranty center here.
