Taco Monday. And Chrystal Light peach ice tea with a glug of tequila. I’ve had worse. Mike

I had my tacos last night. Since the girls are "Up Nort" I will probably order in tonight and break out a can of tuna for Simon and Riley.

We had whole wheat linguini with sun dried tomatoes. Tonight will start with some escargot that we bought at the giant international supermarket, Lee Lee. Will make some whole wheat French bread to go with. Not sure what after that first course, maybe just a salad and more bread.

Most dining around here is of the bar food or steak house variety. A few years ago, though, a little hole in the wall Italian place called Maria's opened up in a renovated house. You walk in and this old ethnic Italian guy with 1 eyebrow and an oiled hairline that starts about 1/4" above that eyebrow is in the kitchen. Cash only, usually booked out 2-3 weeks. No menus and they hand write the dishes on a board. You pick your entree, your bread, and your dessert and you go sit down. $30 a plate kinda stuff. I had the Misto Mare which is steamed in shell clams and mussels, deep fried calamari, and 5 or 6 big shrimp in a white clam sauce served over linguini. Sea food bisque, gorganzola bread, and a slice of ricotta pie. I mean to tell ya....DAMN!

Sorry, last night was Beijing beef with a couple of pork egg rolls.
The thin slices of beef get marinated and then covered in egg white, dredged in corn flour, and deep fried until golden brown and crispy. Some red bell pepper, onion, and garlic get cooked and then mixed into a sauce made from sweet chili, hoisin, and rice wine vinegar. Mix it all together and served with rice.
Overall it was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy, with crispy beef.

Sue's out of town. I went to the grocery store and bought a microwavable chicken pot pie. It was on sale, because of end date issues. $3.04. I added some peas. Topped it off with an Anchor Steam.

The escargot was awful. Already cooked in the shell. Heat and eat. If you can. Rubbery, even though we used the saute method instead of microwave. Came in a garlic butter sauce that was neither garlicky nor buttery. We had to pull out a can of smoked oysters to make a meal. At least the French bread and salad were good.

When shopping I grabbed a large deli sub, added stuff to it and ate the whole damn thing for a late lunch. I'm still full but will eat a little something later.

I've had it once and it must have been done right because I liked it. Not rubbery at all like poorly cooked scallops or calamari. It also had so much garlic I know I'm vampire proofed for life.

Surprised myself tonight with plain spaghetti and sauce. Been at least a year. Enjoyed it despite the guilt. Not a veggie in site.

Seared yellowfin tuna at a bar and open mic tonight. And tater tots. The tots were pretty good with some of the wasabi aoli too.

So we’re adding to the same thread.
We’re off to a fancy place, Ember, in Breckinridge for dinner tonight. My Son-in-law booked a reservation for the 6 adults on the trip. He and my daughter like to dine at special places.

Favorite shepherd's pie recipe, a classic casserole of Britain and Ireland done American-style. Cook ground beef and savory vegetables, top with mashed potatoes, and bake to perfection. It’s really better the next day. Firmer. Bake & Broil 2nd picture - I just wanted to do it

When I make shepherd's pie I always use fresh shepherds, never frozen. German shepherds are tastiest.
