Along the Missouri, in Souix City, high up on a bluff we saw the Sgt Charles Floyd Jr memorial. There is a large obelisk at the site. It was interesting to see, I never knew exactly where he was buried. Sue and I were just there a few weeks ago. The museum just north of there was interesting too.

I made I back home yesterday about 6:00 pm, after dropping my SIL and his brother off in Souix City for the start of RAGBRAI. Bikers were heading out, starting at 6:00 am this morning, 77 miles today. Along the Missouri, in Souix City, high up on a bluff we saw the Sgt Charles Floyd Jr memorial. There is a large obelisk at the site. It was interesting to see, I never knew exactly where he was buried. < Sioux > City, whose airport has the regrettable code of SUX. Went to the Mid-America Air and Transportation Museum while we were there (at SUX) there was a large exhibit for the United 232 that crashed there.

I made that joke to her some time ago, and all I got was an eye roll.
I'm still trying to get my head around Perez's crew achieving a 1.9-second pit stop. Remember how the rules changes a few years ago were going to make that sort of stuff impossible?

Today's CBS Sunday Morning opened with a long tribute to Tony Bennett and ended (just before the clip of baby bison) with this:
Earlier, they included a snippet of this:
Wish they hadn't put chat over the really nice trumpet break.

"Charles Floyd (June 20, 1782 – August 20, 1804) was an American explorer, a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, and the quartermaster of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. A native of Kentucky, he was a son of Robert Clark Floyd, a nephew of James John Floyd, a cousin of Virginia governor John Floyd, and possibly a relative of William Clark. He was one of the first men to join the expedition, and the only member of the Corps of Discovery to die during the expedition."
(I did not know this before today, and it might be one of the biggest headstones I have ever seen.)

I seasoned the 17-pound brisket and let it sit in the fridge overnight. Now it is in the smoker at 225F until the internal temp hits 160, then to be wrapped in foil and cooked another few hours until the internal temp hits about 200F. Take it out and let it rest in the ice chest for an hour. Then, succulent brisket bliss.
I always dream about having leftovers that I can freeze - to have available for tacos, sammies, or breakfast brisket-egg-potato scramble, but we seem to have more hungry visitors drop by when I smoke a brisket.
I need to work on a brisket eggs benedict. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

The Hy-Vee supermarket chain is primary sponsor of this weekend's Indycar double-header at Iowa Speedway near Des Moines, and David Letterman is on hand as a car owner. The pre-race show had a segment on him bagging groceries at a local Hy-Vee -- he hasn't lost his chops!

"The highest point; the culmination. synonym: summit." Bill, my daughter just said that she may as well learn the Dutch National Anthem, since Verstappen keeps winning....
It’s when one is at the top of their pinochle game. Mike

Today's recording session. Midnight Hour Blues by Leroy Carr. Here's the version we settled on after about 10-15 takes. I think it turned out good.

This afternoon, my wife and I drove north from Flagstaff on Highway 180. There were heavy rains which eventually turned into graupel, and the temperature fell to 49°. We decided to skip the hike we had planned.

Stopped by the local Berry Farm that was having an evening of Bluegrass, luckily the opening act didn't play only Bluegrass (heck they even threw in a Dylan song). Some couple named Castle Ridge or something like that. When the other Bluegrass band was getting ready to play we decided to head home and have pulled pork and potato salad. It was a comedy of errors. I burnt the buns while toasting them. The store bought potato salad had fairly "crisp" potatoes, I think they needed another couple of minutes of boiling.
Welcome to my pathetic world.
