Maybe should have entered this one. Bud count a little low (my winner in the Asiatic class had ten buds, eight in flower). Next year it will be in the hunt. [should have entered it.]

But this one was so huge(pushing 5') and it had ten fat buds.

Well done! I like lilies. Wish they didn’t make me sneeze (as to a lesser degree do dogs).

I've gotten most of my starter bulbs (they multiply nicely) from a nursery out your way (Rick's way), B&D Lilies located just outside of Port Townsend, WA. (We've been on a first name basis for years.)

I knew a girl named Lilly once. She worked in a saloon in Deadwood but I promised her I would never talk about it.

They look great, Paul. I've tried to grow these but wind up having remorse for their fate. I do have a question, though: Did you switch fairs when the Great Tandburg Diaspora took you from the farm to the big city? Or are you attending the same one when you lived in Newfolden?

My Fair is the Marshall County Fair, held at the county seat of my home county, Warren, MN.
I've never even set foot at the Grand Forks fair. Folk in Grand Forks that like fairs go the Marshall County Fair. The Grand Forks Fair just doesn't measure up to Marshall County Fair from what I hear and isn't much for 4H or open class exhibits, from what I hear. So far, I just haven't had any interest in it. (that could change, I just never even think about the Grand Forks Fair. One is enough.)
The Marshall County Fair is a really well run county fair and my interest is in contributing to it. There is widespread interest in contributing and making it a good Fair. There was around a hundred flowers entered, a couple dozen quilts, and two walls worth of art and craft type things. And there are three large pole barns filled with farm animals of every sort, and two sound stages for music. There is even a small sound-proofed shed for banjos. And there is a large, recently re-built Grandstand for evening shows featuring car races, fireworks, and sort-of big name country artists.
And there is a hell of a good parade to kick the Fair off. The parade this year had forty-some restored tractors, a couple dozen classic cars, and the Warren High School Marching Band. And lots of horses.

(We've been on a first name basis for years.) It’s a lovely little town, a bit touristy, but in a nice way, well preserved old buildings and nice little shops and eateries.

Port Townsend was the home of one of my favorite instrument builders, Chris J. Knutsen.

We don't have a parade to start the Benton County Fair, and there is no music stage. But it's all good for 4H (projects and livestock) and open class exhibits, including livestock. No ponies this year though.
