So, a few weeks ago, Elderdottir, who aside from her successful youth counseling practice is an ace fly fisherperson, was contacted by a dear friend, Katie, also an ace fly fisherperson and high-profile online "influencer" for her fishing, for being a cancer survivor and more.
Katie had been courted by Explore Minnesota, the state's tourism department, with a proposal: They'd fly her from NC to MN to fish in way-north Lake of the Woods and film her reactions, all expenses paid. I'm not sure if they asked for Katie to suggest a companion or what, but somehow Elderdottir got added to the equation. The idea was to contrast fly fishing with rod-and-reel fishing in MN.
They arrived safely today at MSP, were settled in at the trendy Aloft hotel in Mpls., and were somehow able to score patio seating at the Mississippi riverside Owamni restaurant, where reservations are currently booked months in advance.
I won't get to see her until Sunday, maybe Saturday, but it can't happen too soon.

Looking forward to seeing the results of the trip, and to hearing about the time you hopefully get to spend with her at the end of it.

Excellent sleuthing, Dub! The Explore Minnesota folks are also interested in the women's artistic sides -- Katie is a silversmith and Elderdottir is a skilled knitter, so they will somehow try to film them in those realms, as well.

That sounds like great fun, but the best part will be your visit. I know you must be excited!

Some pics from dinner. Read this with Bill's voice in your mind: Well, of course, Explore MN didn't take Dottir and Katie to just ANY Asian restaurant, they took them to Union Hmong Kitchen in Uptown Mpls, whose chef, Yia Vang, is TV-famous and one of the state's top two or three chefs. He sat with them for a while and ordered some extras for them, and was described as totally charming. Elderdottir, rear: Here's a shot of the entire platter. Dottir says she saved me some Hmong sausage, which I am eager to try. Tonight the focus is on culture at a Lantern Festival at Lake Phalen, food being served from ethnic food trucks.
