My granddad would have turned 119 today. That's him in middle school, in the front row, sitting all the way to the right in 1918.
I sure do miss the old bugger.
Stay cool, folks. Seems like we're all under a heat warning this weekend, near and far.

I deleted my competing daily thread. I don’t know how I didn’t see this one.
Good morning. Diane and I will go back to the place where we intended to hike the other day, only to have our plans derailed by rain and graupel. Have a good day. They’re all good because they’re the only ones we get.

Coffee brewing, three miles walked, work computer fired up and ready to go. I guess it's time to face the work day.

Big storms rolled through overnight. So far, 3 waves of intense stuff have hit us. Right now, it raining quietly. It’s supposed to hit 100 today. It will feel like a jungle out there. Stay safe and relatively dry.

I decided to start giving guitar lessons again now that the pandemic has subsided. Today I have a 65 year old gentleman from the Pebble Creek retirement community coming by to start up lessons. Today's meet is free and an opportunity to see if there is anything I can offer, and come up with a plan for what we'd cover. I only focus on fingerstyle guitar playing so I limit myself on who or what I teach.

Yesterday would have been my mother's 102nd birthday. We always celebrate with hot fudge sundaes. My sister in Arizona was having surgery yesterday and couldn't partake, so we ordered an extra one and ate it on her behalf. It's important for family to help each other out.

Good morning
69F-89F partly cloudy.
Got some rain last night and outside temps dropped like a stone, got the whole house cooled off and Finally got some sleep.
Got a 9:30 phone consultation with a Doc and then hopefully shop time. I keep saying shop time and 9 days out of 10 it doesn't happen due to one thing or another but I do have a guitar to take out of the clamps, a whole bunch of them, and clean up.

Hot and humid. RAGBRAI report: SIL is still going strong, he made the longest leg of the ride yesterday, from Des Moines to Tama. 90 miles, 4200 feet of climb and an afternoon heat index of 110.
Lots of celebrities pop up on the ride from time to time. Yesterday Dallas Clark, former Iowa and Pro football player, was riding.
Edit, just saw that there are riders from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries.

Yungerdottir got home from Greece, England and France last night. Hell of a trip where she met up with two friends she taught with in Korea. She’s sleeping in. She saw a ton of wonderful things, but loved best traveling in Greece with one of her buddies who lives on Lesbos.
She also saw Six, the musical, in London. It’s about the six wives of Henry VIII. She sent us the Spotify link for the lead number, which was catchy, fun, and had the most memorable chorus.
“Divorced, beheaded, died. Divorced, beheaded, survived.”
And made that musical. Of course intertwined at points with the melody from Greensleeves.
Will do some writing today once she’s up and away from my study.

Up, coffeed and watching the news. Very thankful to be in the apparent weather sweet spot of the PNW. The heat and storms the rest of you are dealing with do not look fun. It blows my mind to hear that the ocean water temp in parts of the Keys is 100 degrees. It appears we could be in for big trouble re global warming.
Not much going on here, I’ll mow and edge the front in a bit, then go for a bike ride.

Very muggy. Possible thunderstorms later.
Moving Onlidottir and granddaughter is a weeklong project. Moving stuff around our house in preparation has occupied several days and lots of trips up and down stairs.

As Marty noted, we got cool fresh air overnight and the next few days look a lot more summer-normal.
I made a Target run yesterday when the temp was 99 and the dewpoint was 74, and the 25 yards of walking from the car to the store was brutal. I thought about the pro golfers in town for the 3M Open, playing on a course not famous for its shade, but then, they play in Florida a lot, and at least yesterday there was a steady wind.
When I returned home from Target my central-air compressor appeared to be inop. But the house was dehumidified, the temp stayed steady at 80, and the furnace fan was working, so I got through the night OK, and this morning the compressor is working fine. Dodged that bullet.
Heard from Elderdottir and they will be in St. Paul on Saturday, at the posh Celeste Hotel. I'll pick them up and we'll motor off somewhere for an exotic Asian evening meal. Sounds like the Explore Minnesota crew has kept them on a tight itinerary -- I'm hoping that didn't spoil the fishing and the sightseeing.

Good morning
Spitfire Grill (1996) - A profound parable about the pain of rejection that allows redemption to emerge in our lives. I enjoyed it - thrice.
Barely awake
Enjoy yourself 😎

The highest point in Iowa (1,670 ft above sea level) is not on the RAGBRAI route. The lowest point is the Mississippi River at 480 ft above sea level. He probably means they have to ride over 4,200 one-foot-tall bumps. 😎😉

I am getting old and scattered, folks aren’t interested in MJH, Paxton and Van Ronk anymore. It was good while it lasted. I don’t even know the names of the current folkies anymore.

Come on, rain. A good chance of it for the next few days. Since we started out at 86F at our house this morning, Mr. H and I decided to walk the mall. We do not enjoy that, but had planned to go to Total Wine anyway. So had hot cereal for breakfast for the first time in a couple of months. Went around the mall twice, then spent over $200 for wine, limencello, and Laphroaig.
