Hmmm, we're getting slow around here.
Funeral at 10. Sound check at 9:15. Yeah, Wendy and I are singing a few...

Good news is that we got some rain last night. Bad news is that we also had hail and lightning and there were power outages in many areas of the city. We had seen the storm coming in and decided to get dinner started early. Good thing we did because we were still eating when we lost power. It was off for 4 hours. We sat on the patio, checked for damage while we still had some light, and chatted with neighbors in the street. Finally came inside about 9:30 PM when heat and humidity got to the point where it was more comfortable in our 84 degree house. Managed to get to sleep somehow and the power came on about 10:30 PM. Last night's dishes are still in the sink. I'll be doing laundry early today in case it happens again. BTW, no damage, except more holes in the atrium skylight besides what we got in the hail storm on 7/17.

We went to the home improvement show recently and I was tempted sign up to get a quote from the Generac rep. But alas it was too crowded. That booth was VERY busy. I wonder why.

I like sleeping in! I feel almost rested. Still hot in New York, thunderstorms coming in the late afternoon.
Our heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow.

Big storms rolled through at midnight. Downpour rain, strong winds, and, I think, hail. There are lots of branches down but I don’t know if there is any damage around here. I would guess there is. It’s like breathing through a blanket outside. Keep your heads down.

Good morning
61F-81F sunny
It shall be a pleasant day and I got another good nights sleep due to the cool overnight temps. Last evenings rain cooled things off nicely but knocked out our T-mobile WiFi for some reason so I actually watched TV, WiFi is back this morning. In trying to get WiFi last night I also realized how out of date my Windows 10 PC is and it is not capable of using W-11. DaWife tells me to order a new one,?. Me thinks she has a little cash stash I didn't know about, do wives do that?
I just might have a few people dropping by this morning and I'm able to stay upright to see them. Feeling decent.
AND: Me Darling Wife is making Roast Beef Hash and Poached Eggs.

Good morning. It’s cool and beautiful in Flagstaff. Diane and I will have lunch with a friend from from Phoenix this evening two friends on Vancouver island will make a FaceTime call to us. Tomorrow evening will have dinner with another friend from Phoenix. We haven’t had the kind of storms that Hopsin has but we’re seeing the usual pattern of monsoon rains. All is well.

Fiddlerina and I are staying at a motel in Manchester, IA for a couple of nights. In addition to Castle Ridge, she plays with Bob Black’s band, Banjoy. They are booked all weekend at the Backbone Bluegrass Festival just south of Strawberry Point.
Yesterday was dangerously hot and humid. A major storm came through just after 7:00 PM and cut their set short. Everything had to be shut down to wait out the storm. It finally abated around 8:30 so they decided to resume the evening show. This left time for The Grascals to go on. Last night was the only night they were scheduled so that was a real treat. So glad we got to see them.
Today and tomorrow the temps will be in the low 80s. Should be beautiful days.

Morning!
Cool and sunny in the north. Don't think we will reach 80 (not if the forecast of a 77 high is right).
Charlene is heading down to Fargo for Anna's shower. sO Casper and I will be batching it (MOVIE & PIZZA!)

Off for my usual circle of errands, whilst Dottir and Katie get the royal treatment on their last day with the film crew, with a visit to the sprawling Hmong Marketplace in St. Paul, lunch at a Hmong restaurant, and more adventures before farewell dinner with the crew at an eatery whose ID has not been disclosed to them, but I bet it will be a dazzler.
Katie leaves tomoro morning, Dottir and I will have brunch at Holman's Table with Babzi joining us, then have the whole day to mess around before heading off to a family friend's house, where Dottir will spend the night and then they'll drive her to the airport on Monday morn.
Shannon, a former Alabama golf star, Lee Hodges, is leading our 3M Open by four strokes.

We received 3/4 in of rain last evening, when the storms came through. Lost power for about 20 minutes. Haven't seen any damage here.
RAGBRAI REPORT: My SIL was camping in Coralville last night when the storms came through. He sheltered in a nearby school. Don't know if he got any sleep, he was up and on the bike, heading for Davenport, at 5:00 this morning. He dipped his front tire in the Mississippi, in Davenport at 10:50.
His RAGBRAI ride has been Successfully completed!

Last week we had a lightning strike that we knew hit close to us; it turned out to be in our neighbor's backyard. They lost some appliances; another neighbor lost a bunch of new networking equipment he just bought as well as the surge protector it was all plugged into. Our TV was fried, along with the surge protector. The new one arrived on Thursday, and it's just about set up correctly for good viewing. A few years back, another neighbor's house was hit; they lost appliances and had damage to some sewing machines - not your ordinary ones, but professional machines that cost $10K - $15K a piece. The neighbor who lost the networking equipment found out our local electricity cooperative can install a whole-house surge protector, for relatively cheap. I think we're going to get one installed. www.bcremc.com/products-services/surge-protection/

Some great Lightning tips from www.valchoice.com/consumer-insurance-information/lightning/Protecting Yourself in a Lightning StormWhen you hear thunder, lightning is nearby. There are steps you can take to protect yourself and your home from a lightning strike. Let’s start with your body, then we will cover your home and possessions. Go inside. Make sure you are inside a solid structure or an automobile with a hard top. Don’t ever be the tallest object around, or close to the tallest object. If caught in a field where you are the tallest object, get to a low area, crouch down –don’t lay down — and have minimal contact with the ground. The less contact you have with the ground the more difficult it is for the electricity to pass through you to the ground, making you a less attractive object to strike. Avoid tall objects or metal objects. Don’t take shelter under a tree or near a metal fence. Objects that are tall, or objects that are good for conducting electricity will attract lightning. Stay away from them. Inside your home, stay away from anything connected with wires or piping (TVs, lights, appliances, faucets, etc.). If lightning strikes the home the conductive properties of wires and plumbing will bring it to you. . . . . Items You Can Easily Address YourselfInstall UL listed surge protectors. These need to be specially designed for electrical strikes. Don’t use power strips as protective devices. Most are not designed for reliable lightning strike protection. Unplug expensive electronics. If you are going to be gone for a while, unplug the computer, TV, etc. before you leave. If a storm is approaching, unplug the devices temporarily. House wiring is a direct path from the lightning strike to these devices. If they are unplugged, that is the best form of surge protection.

OK, my PSA is done.
After office work yesterday I went home to see that my son had brought another pickup load of bark dust. I suspect he is taking this opportunity to get me to exercise - he knows I cannot sit by and watch him do the work alone.
Anyway, I had a couple hours of hard, dusty, and hot labor tearing out grassroots from what is supposed to be hard-pack gravel and moving the bark dust, topped with mowing and edging.
Surprisingly, I do not ache today.

No one at home but me and Bianca, the killer dog, who is refusing to go for a walk. Got a good guitar playing session in just now, though. May watch a movie. A tad too late for a nap, unless it's one of those power ones.
Was working on this song. I know, it ain't bluegrass.
