“now it’s computers and more computers and soon everybody will have one, 3-year-olds will have computers and everybody will know everything about everybody else long before they meet them. nobody will want to meet anybody else ever again and everybody will be a recluse like I am now.” -- Charles Bukowski

So he posted it on the internet. An extract from a poem by Charles Bukowski written before the arrival of social networks and hand-held devices.

So he posted it on the internet. An extract from a poem by Charles Bukowski written before the arrival of social networks and hand-held devices. Read "The Caves of Steel" Isaac Asimov 1953. The first of 3 books that led up to his Foundation series. It's a sci-fi murder mystery but describes human social interaction in the far future.

Wim wenders' "Until the end of the world" now seems prescient.
Besides relating to the pandemic shutdown, another element is an addictive machine that can record your dreams (and play them back to you)--you enter that virtual dream world and don't want to leave. Remarkably like people glued to their cell phones (or goggles).
