Hot, hot hot... I made some pork curry for dinner, indian style. We had that and warmed up rice. A bag of frozen green beans into the curry, so at least a little veg. And, as it is every year at this time--bomb day:

A very sad anniversary, indeed.
I hope no country's military ever chooses to use this kind of force again.
And in more mundane news, although tangential, I am going to see "Oppenheimer" with my son this afternoon. Trying to get the usual Sunday chores accomplished before I need to leave the home place.
Wishing everyone a peaceful midsummer day.

The prolific historian Stephen Ambrose spent most of his career critical of the decision. He shifted after researching some of his WW2 era books. Complicated matter.
My late uncle's girlfriend had a connection...she was step-sister (or was it half-sister) to Col. Tibbetts, commander of the Enola Gay (named for his mom).

I suggest a day without chores. Life will go on and the day will be more enjoyable. Rained all day yesterday, most of the night, and it’s raining now. And, it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. We haven’t had rain like this is a long time. We haven’t seen many hummingbirds all summer but suddenly a lot have shown up. They are slurping down the nectar like it was free. Enjoy yourselves. The Gary Airshow was scheduled to go on yesterday & today for the first time in 7 years. The nonstop rain has all the military, aerobatic, WWII, etc., planes partially grounded at Gary Airport. It’s a big show along the Miller Beach lakefront and it has been eagerly awaited but it looks like Mother Nature is playing with this one. Too bad. It’s always been a great show. Most of the rain is south of the beach, so they are getting in what show they can. abc7chicago.com/gary-air-show-2023-marquette-park-indiana-weather/13604193/

Looks like Howard has no plans to view the Indycar race, headed to the cinema instead. If Dottir stays home, Howard, it's on NBC at noon your time. There are even former F1 drivers in the mix!
Marty is coming over today to pick up and perhaps photograph (weather-allowing) my Kennedy 000, before giving it a once-over and setup so I can put it on the market. I have decided to sell it only to a fellow Soundholian, whoever that might be.

The film starts at 2:05 and the cinema is about a 15-minute walk from home. 😜 I have been informed by the teenager that she finds Indycar boring compared to F1! What?
Dad still may watch, just to see what it's all about.
Sorry about having to sell your guitar, and the circumstances that set this in motion, Bill.

Yes it is. My father was in the Marines and would have participated in an invasion of the Japanese mainland if the bomb hadn't brought a sudden end to the war. That would have resulted in very high casualties for the Marines and for the Japanese, including civilians. I probably wouldn't be here. The cost-benefit analysis is complicated.

Thanks, Howard, for your kind words. It is a wonderful instrument, has a great voice and is so comfy to hold and play, and needs a home. I wonder if your dottir has seen Indycar racing on ovals only, which can be boring, indeed. But road courses and street circuits, like the one in Nashville for today's race, are super-challenging and offer exciting wheel-to-wheel racing. The Nashville course even includes a bridge that spans a river.

Good morning. 66F-75F cloudy. Breakfast with our girls. We did the shopping yesterday, kinda liked that, so I will head over to Billy Bob's later to check out his Kennedy. My photo booth is ready but I've never been able to get the lighting correct. I have the old Podium studio lights and the are just too much for my little booth. With the lights installed there is no room for me. If I can get the lighting size down and still get enought light I want to reproduce this. I will take a few tools with me and I set up the guitar long ago so it may only need a tweak. If it needs more I bring it back with me. We had those Members Mark hot dogs last night with a nice Dijon Potato salad.

You're welcome, Bill. I wrote that because, obviously, I have heard you play in the past.
She told me the Nashville street course isn't that interesting to her! This is a young woman of VERY particular tastes. I can't change her mind.
That river—would it not be the Cumberland, which separates Nashville from East Nashville? (Woodland Studios, owned by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, is in East Nashville, as well as a fabulous restaurant where we had dinner with friends, in 2018, called Cafe Margot—renovated, I believe, from an old gas station.)
Marty: I wish I could swing by and help you with the lighting. It's kind of second nature to me at this point in my life. Not a good time for me to take any out-of-town trips.

Thanks Howard. Half my problem is finding time & money to change the lights, they are just too big for the small space. The ceiling is only 7' and if I had the extra foot I probably could make it work.

Heading out with the trailer for a few days of coastal camping with friends and family. Three trailers, a couple yurts and a hotel room or two. Should be cool at the beach. Looking forward to some good fish and chips.

Steady rain falling outside the office as I get ready to grab an instrument and head toward Iowa City to brush up a bit more before next Saturday's show at the Amana Artist Guild event. I will play with Joe and Debbie Byrd for a few hours in the afternoon on the 12th.
Today's get together is a song circle at the American Legion. I find that I need to get one performance of a song in public so I can mess it all up and then I'm pretty good after that. This will be a good use of a couple newish tunes.
Bill, would love to discuss your Kennedy, but alas, monetary issues being what they are, I'll have to stick with the Alvarez for the foreseeable future.

Been gone for a while. Fighting some health issues with the outcomes yet to be determined.
As part of the whole thing I am down to 168 lbs buck naked. Was about 180. Lightest since high school. One positive, it’s amazing how much easier hills are walking or on a bike!

Fiddlerina is set to play with Banjoy this evening near Amana. They say it’s rain or shine. Looks like it’ll be rain.

Hot, hot hot... I made some pork curry for dinner, indian style. We had that and warmed up rice. A bag of frozen green beans into the curry, so at least a little veg. And, as it is every year at this time--bomb day: I have just started rereading John Hersey's book Hiroshima for, I think, the third time. A hard book to read, but well worth the effort. As others have said, a very complex situation which required decisions I am glad weren't mine to make.
