Gone but not forgotten by me, The Asylum Street Spankers. No amplification, all the time.
Have a good day, all.

Good morning. We're entering a stretch of days with significant chances of rain, like the monsoon season of old. It would be welcome.
Last night my wife and I went to a nearby acoustic venue to hear a set by a singer/songwriter who'd been recommended to us. He was very skilled. He'd obviously worked very hard on the lyrics. He sang them in such a way that I could only occasionally understand them. Note to self: don't do that.
This morning I have my weekly Zoom breakfast meeting and then I'll smoke a chuck roast. Enjoy your day.

They go for a vocal affectation that sounds cool (I guess), but twists words in ways that make them unintelligible. It's about the sound and not the communication. Bothers me a lot. Music is communication. But pop music has always been that way. Have you ever visited "Kiss This Guy" website?

Here's hoping the Indiana Natural Resources department can take care of you, Marty. Today marks the 54th anniversary of Hurricane Camille, the second-most intense hurricane to hit the continental US. www.weather.gov/mob/camille

I agree with you except that I saw a lot of it in my contemporaries. They'd hear singers with put-on accents and thought that's how real singers sing.
Some songwriters even wrote that way. "Them holes are all that's real"? Townes Van Zandt was a Robert Frost fan from a rich family. He knew how English worked.

Hoping for a productive and short workday today. We have a new batch of court clerks who apparently think rejecting documents is a sign of competence, but they continue to reject documents that they shouldn't. Oddly, it is not limited to one county. I guess everyone is entitled to errors on the job and I need to help train new clerks just as those clerks will eventually need to help train new attorneys and their staff.

Another day spent in air conditioned splendor. Supposed to cool off a bit starting tomorrow. I hope so.

A good chance of rain here for the next few days. We got teased by rain yesterday afternoon. Wind and clouds, but only got a few drops. Supposed to hit 108F today, but only 99 on Saturday. Mr. H and I are hosting a monthly lunch with our social club today. We rotate between a few restaurants. Today is a sandwich place. Since we only end up at Baggins every few months, we both always end up getting the "Unforgettable." Roasted turkey breast, cream cheese, mayo, bacon, sprouts, tomatoes, and avocado on 12-grain bread. You can have it your way by adding or subtracting ingredients, but I like it as is. bagginsgourmet.com/about/Fromm there we'll be swinging by a luggage and travel store. Hoping to find a USB data blocker. Mr. H had ordered 2 a few weeks ago and the package that arrived only contained one. Tonight is choir practice for me. I missed the first one of the season when I was out of town. The second one didn't happen because too many other people were out of town. It's gonna be interesting to see how I do with my impaired vision in bad lighting.

I'm still at my happy place. I just had breakfast, a big slice of last evening's combo pizza.
Lawn and driveway mowed and the boat checked out. The campfire is still smoking a little from last night's fire.

The chuck roast I smoked this morning rates about ten our of ten. Diane agrees. I'll have to remember how I did this one.
Although it had nothing to do with the flavor, I used a new wireless Bluetooth meat thermometer to tell me when it was done. Worked like a charm.

Web-surfing tonight while listening to the local classical station play "Capriccio Italien," which I have heard a skillion times but never tire of. I walked over to the stereo and cranked up the volume a bit more than I intended, but left it at the elevated level and heard nuances through my Infinity bookshelf speakers (endorsed by Evan) that I had never heard before, all good.

As I've mentioned before, I arranged to play a set in October, which is forcing me to get reacquainted with the guitar. I'm spending time on it every day. Initially almost everything about playing was difficult. I've found, though, that more and more things I couldn't initially do are becoming doable. Keeping at it is paying off. I'm pleased. That's all.

"Tom waits has wit and panache. Dylan is mostly a whiner."
I agree, but as much as I dislike Dylan, we ought to give him his due. He opened the door to popular songs that weren't just about love. Nobody else had the gumption to do it. Things were never the same after "Like a Rolling Stone" hit the airwaves.

What a coincidence! I'm listening to "The Basement Tapes" while I work from home today (Dylan and The Band).
