Good morning. Today we'll start getting the edges of the hurricane that's headed for southern California. The heat will drop and it'll be cloudy with a chance of rain.
Have a good day.

Good morning. It's a beautiful Saturday morning with temperatures in the low 60s, going up to a sunny 80Β°. Overnight lows were perfect for sleeping.
Feeling a bit nostalgic this morning and remembering the band in which I played 18 years ago (wow), The Blue Moon Ramblers. Time does fly by. The only person I'm still in touch with regularly is Dotty, the fiddle player.

Good morning, gonna be a hot and sticky one here today -- high of 95 is predicted, with dewpoints in the 60s. I'll make a Trader Joe's run this morning while it's still cool, and after that who knows. Perhaps a road trip along the Mississippi, on beloved Hwys. 61 (Minn. side) and 35 (Wis. side).
I am thrilled to report that I awoke with no hiccups, after enduring 18 hours of them yesterday. I am behaving carefully to not trigger a recurrence. I'm afraid to eat, drink, belch or fart, four of my favorite things, lest I upset the delicate balance of my diaphragm.
I woke up thinking of ePaul's moving version of "Water Is Wide," which he performed at an early IJam, one held in the Congregational church. Paul, if you're listening, could you favor us with the rest of the lyrics? All I remember is the opening line:
The water is wet ...

"I woke up thinking of ePaul's moving version of 'Water Is Wide,' which he performed at an early IJam, one held in the Congregational church."
It's no biggie but I suspect it was the Presbyterian Church.
At some point ePaul was playing outside somewhere and doing what sounded initially like a jaunty old folk song. If you listened to the lyrics, they got more and more preposterous as the song progressed, Classic ePaul humor.

Like Bill I think we'll get an early start. No shop this morning. We are off to the DMV and then breakfast.

Today is the anniversary of my wifeβs and mineβs first date. She commented this morning about it being 18 years, to which I replied, βno, itβs 28 yearsβ. She replied back, βNo wonder why Iβm too stiff to get upβ.
Canβt decide if I should go to a jam today or tomorrow. Need to try out a few new songs in preparation for IJ2023, so I can screw them up in public and get that out of the way and not screw them up at IJ (as I have at so many past IJ performances).

The Aug. 19, 2023, edition of the Hammond Tattler incorrectly reported the location of an Idiot Jam recital. It was held at the Presbyterian Church of Vinton (Iowa).
The Tattler regrets the error and appreciates the alert reader who pointed it out.

Iβm up. I was also up at 1:30 this morning, as the truck anti theft alarm decided to go off for no reason at all. Iβm sure the neighbors appreciated it. Not sure if Iβve developed a sensor problem or what. To quote the late great Rosanne Rosanna-Dana, βItβs always something.β
Need to mow again. Itβs a vicious cycle, we water, the grass grows, I cut it down, then water again. Crazy eh?
Grilled chicken thighs on the que last night. Iβm getting pretty good at scorching chicken thighs.

While I am happy to celebrate the 18th again, I suspect we are all better off moving on to the 19th.

... I woke up thinking of ePaul's moving version of "Water Is Wide," which he performed at an early IJam, one held in the Congregational church. Paul, if you're listening, could you favor us with the rest of the lyrics? All I remember is the opening line: The water is wet ...I had to do a little brain digging, but I think the below is close. At one point, it was up to 32 verses, but they just didn't match the literary quality of the opening, so I just let them drop away. There was one pretty good one about running away from an angry woman, if that comes back, I may post it, but until then, here you go... The water is wet, I can not cross o're Neither do I have wings to fly Iβll build a boat that can carry two And both shall row, my love and I
I built a boat, from a hollowed tree Said to my love, sit next to me But the boat sank low and began to sink And so I dumped, my love in the drink
Oh love is gentle, and love is sweet But I can not abide wet feet When a boat for two can float but one Then a man must do, what must be done

Enjoying a rare cloudy day and hoping for more rain on top of the tenth of an inch that we got last night. Lots of people out walking or just sitting outside for those who aren't very mobile. Waffles are being made. Maybe a grocery run later.

Lunch today was a new (to me) Trader Joe's offering, and I really liked it! (Perked it up a bit with some Cajun seasoning). Joeβs Diner Four Cheese Mac & Cheese really does taste like you made it yourself β some have said even better. It starts with carefully cooked elbow macaroni. The semolina, smile-shaped pasta is bathed in an ooey-gooey- and-oh-so-creamy sauce that showcases a generous amount of four shredded cheeses β Cheddar, Havarti, Gouda, and Swiss. Smoothed with milk and butter, the cheeses melt to blanket the elbows beautifully β though, a quick stir can seriously spread the gooey-d-ness. Whether you heat in the microwave (about 5 minutes) or bake it in the oven (about 25 minutes), our Mac βn Cheese easily becomes the kind of cozy dish that leaves you feeling satisfied and happy.

Bill used to call the audience members in the Presbyterian church the mannequins.
I was thinking about going to a jam in Cedar Rapids today, but if I did I'd also want to make an Aldi's run or something, and it's too hot for a guitar to sit in a car that's not running for even a few minutes.

Coincidentally I had grilled cheese for lunch, consisting of cheddar, havarti and gouda. And some nice 12-grain bread, of course, and just a touch of dijon mustard.

A 1915 Indian motorcycle board-track racer just sold at a Mecum auction for $285,000. Of course, it DID have whitewall tires. On edit, Kareem Abdul Jabbar's 1948 Packard Super 8 convertible, with Kareem in the passenger seat, just sold for $315,000. (On further edit, the buyer did not get to bring home Kareem, only the car.)

We've reached 93 degrees and a dewpoint of 73, don't think I've ever seen that high a reading for dewpoint here. Only a hint of a breeze and Canuckismoke in the air.
Glad I decided to stay home and be a veg.
