Good morning, folks. We're back to hot-hot weather for a spell so this will be an indoor day. I hope to finish assembling some shelving that I've been working on intermittently for a couple of months. It's a two-person job so I can only make progress when my son is home to help. Besides, no one would describe me as handy. I think we'll cross the finish line today.
My wife has choir boot camp this morning and into the afternoon. For her it's a social event as well as a musical one and she's looking forward to it.
Have a good day, one and all.

Woke at 3am to loud popping noises and general hubbub. Turns out a neighbor's house was completely engulfed in flames. The father was hurt and was taken away by ambulance. Thankfully no other injuries but a dong was lost in the inferno. Total loss, the children sobbing, a terrible scene.
Sermon prep today. I'm a blank right now.

Up early, getting loading up on coffee as I get ready for our Boom Town gig today. Unlike last weekend's gig, today's high will be 82 not 95.

"Sermon prep today. I'm a blank right now." We follow the standard lectionary with set biblical readings for each Sunday. Whoever is preaching can usually find something in one of the readings to use as a starting point. Even if your church doesn't follow it, it might provide some inspiration. lectionarypage.net/YearA_RCL/Pentecost/AProp16_RCL.html

A year ago, at the Boom Town gig, my beautiful D-28 was blown over and suffered a broken neck. Lazarus is all repaired, as good, or better than new, but today he will be staying home and I'll be playing my DX 2 or my Gretch bass.

Good morning
60F-75F partly cloudy.
For some reason I woke up thinking it's Sunday. Saturday shop and then over to buddy Milo's place to do a string change for him.
Nice day for the Fair, but I ain't going anywhere near that madhouse. Billiam lives within a mile of the Fair grounds and that's too close. We do have a Park and Ride area near us where we could park for free and get a shuttle to the Fair but there's nothing there I want to see that bad.

After a few contortions trying to get into the DoE student website, my daughter has found her class schedule for this upcoming school year. This includes a class in Physics, and two AP classes—US History and Computer Science. It is so odd at moments, being a Humanities guy and having a STEM kid.
She assembled these bookcases for her room.
I'm off to do chores and some personal grooming.
Wishing everyone a pleasant Saturday.

Partly sunny and breezy. Much cooler and less humid.
Eldest granddaughter's first week of middle school went well. A few anxious mornings, but the old kids befriended the new kid and her teacher is "the funnest teacher ever"
Might go out to Lake Michigan, 'cuz there isn't much summer left. A bike ride might be included. Dawn loves her ebike, I don't try to keep up with her on hills.

Howard, stem kids are rock stars, congrats.
Up and at em. Or whatever passes for that. Coffee is being consumed, Wordle was a struggle, and it’s going to be hot and hazy/Smokey today. This afternoon is our yearly Block/neighborhood party. It’s a potluck snacky thing with most everyone bringing a bottle our two of wine to share. Low key, late afternoon meet and greet.

Morning. Just puttering so far this morning. Screen doors open with a slight breeze and the clean smell of last nights rain moving through the house. Thinking about a third cuppa Joe.

Usual Saturday stuff, filled up the motorcar at $3.65/gal. at a station where it was $3.89 two days ago, crazy stuff. Then off to Holman's Table for brunch. Their menu has a "Meat Omelet" with what I assumed was a choice of sausage, bacon, ham or Canadian bacon, plus cheese and veggies, but my server informed me that no, ALL of those meats are in there. So, a no-brainer order, and the fruit cup on the side erased any evil in the meats! I'll get a second meal out of that investment tomoro morning. About the State Fair, as long as I stay away from the intersection of Snelling and Larpenteur Aves., I'm not bothered at all. The church down the block from me has a park 'n' ride free shuttle to the fair, and some folks park on my block to walk to the lot and catch the bus, but the city allows parking on only one side of the street, so no hassle for me, other than an occasional piece of litter left behind. I don't plan on attending, but I have a super EZ way of getting there on years when I do go: I choose the Veterans Recognition Day, when admission is $2 off for vets, I ride my bike over there, where there's a free, locked corral, I go early in the day, hit the Fine Arts Center first, then get a smoked turkey leg, later an ear of corn, and some exotic Asian lemonade. Head home by noon, just as the crowds are really starting to arrive. Have a weekend, tribe!

Just back from a meeting. Our Episcopal diocese is in the process of choosing a new bishop. I am a member of the transition committee, more precisely, on the committee that is charged with establishing diocesan tours for the yet to be picked 3 or 4 candidates. It's a work in progress.
Have good ones.

We trolled Detroit Reservoir for about six hours yesterday morning and came away with just six fish. As our friend says, we are not in the business of catching fish. We are creating memories. I am going to have a memory of a poor fishing day, but a great day on the water with my brother and a friend. Very few boats out and the reservoir is dropping quickly. Saw a bald eagle and many osprey grabbing fish out of the water.
To top of the day, my sister-in-law fixed us a great steak dinner.
