45,000 rural carriers either didn't get paid or got partially paid this week. Apparently we have to "bargain" for our full pay.

That shouldn't happen, John. What caused it?
Good morning all. Maybe some people regret the passing of summer but Phoenicians aren't among them. In another few weeks the good stuff should arrive and it stays for a long time.
This morning I'll attend my usual Zoom social breakfast. This afternoon I'll have my fourth brain MRI of the year. The previous ones were all normal but I have a new neurologist. I suspect he has to order this to protect himself from any claim of negligence.
Enjoy your day. I plan to.

Good morning
58F-82F sunny
Another perfect MN State Fair day I won't be attending. Imagine being there with a huge crowd when a big thunderstorm moves through. Torrential rain with high winds and lightning. If you are near the Grandstand or Barn areas there might be some cover but a lot of the grounds have only trees to shelter under. *50k people on a average day and only comfortable shelter for maybe half that. The real lucky ones get the Beer Gardens to hide in.*Bill will fact check that I'm sure because I'm not 100% positive about the daily attendance. But the point is if there is rough weather finding a place to get out of it can be a problem on a crowded day.
I think just shop time today.

Today we are getting our windshield replaced after it was inundated with gravel while driving on the freeway. An amazingly stupid person with a pickup and a flatbed trailer spraying clouds of gravel as he shot down the highway at over 70 mph. I counted 15 chips in the windshield. A few as large as a dime. Fortunately no signs of any paint damage.

52 degrees at the cabin this morning. Bright sun, a very light breeze, a few people out fishing. Left over Pizza for breakfast.
I didn't find any good knapping stone yesterday, but a had a bucket full if rock tucked away here and I put it to use yesterday. I had local stone, obsidian from Oregon, Burlington chert, from Burlington and Pedernales stone from the Pedernales river in Texas. I chose local and was able to knap out a 3 in long point. It needs a little touch up, but it's "hunt" ready.

Morning. Enough of a shower just blew by to drive the cat in. Now, cool and cloudy with the expectation it will give way to a partly sunny 80F degree day. I will be fiddling around the flower beds and setting up a species tank for a half-dozen shellies/shell dwellers (Neolamprologus multifasciatus) I will pick up this weekend. Shellies (or Multies) are a small (2-3") cichlid from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. As the name suggests, they make their homes in shells. A pair will pick out a shell, claim it as their own, and defend against all comers, using it to raise and protect their family and as a place of refuge when harm swims by. aquaticsunlimited.com/product/cichlid-shell-dweller-multifasciatus-neolamprologus-multifasciatus/Of the five tanks currently in my fish/music room, only one is a "community tank" (a decorative tank with a mixed assortment of 'get along' fish. The other four are all species tanks intended to mimic (to the degree possible) a specific bio-type, and they are stocked lightly with a particular species that would be found in a slice of that section of lake or river (ok, the one tank has two species in it, but they are closely associated with each other).

My Mubuna tank: a school of 9 Chindongo Saulosi from Lake Malawi in Africa. As they mature, the dominant males will turn a vibrant blue. (yep, Kevin is John's long lost cousin from Africa)

But the point is if there is rough weather finding a place to get out of it can be a problem on a crowded day. Strib excerpt: The number of people who went to the fair on opening day, always a Thursday, was a mere 106,327 — falling about 15,000 short of last year's opening day numbers, and about 24,000 fewer than 2019's record-setting opening day crowd. But Friday's fairgoers set a record for attendance on the first Friday of the State Fair, at 164,741. That number topped last year's numbers by more than 11,000. Saturday and Sunday attendance was also higher than 2022's numbers but weren't record-setting. Still, Saturday's number flocking to the fair — 212,850 — was about 55,000 higher than the 2022 gate that day. And Sunday's 173,724 was higher than last year but far less than the record of 209,969 for that day, set in 1994.

We were visiting friends in Rowayton, on the Connecticut coast of the Long Island Sound. I'll take a wild guess and posit that the kid was about five years old, placing this circa 2012.
