Good morning. Yesterday's storms mostly passed east and west of Phoenix. We just had a smattering of rain and a pleasant day. A preview of autumn. Today will be much the same.
I wasn't awake enough to play Wordle. I made a guess that included a letter I'd already ruled out. It's a good thing it doesn't matter.
Our son is in California visiting his sister so Diane and I have the house to ourselves. It feels odd. We like having him around.
We'll do some yard work. I'll swap out the photos in a small, continuing exhibit at our church. That's about it. Have a pleasant day.

Three scorchers on tap for the State Fair's final days -- 97 predicted for today, 100 for tomorrow and 98 for Monday, and humid, as well, I suspect. Still, I'll do a little road trip today to a fly-in gathering in farmish Glencoe, about an hour's drive to the southwest. I've been to this annual affair a couple of times previous and like it because instead of the usual pancake breakfast, theirs is lunch, with grilled brats, sweet corn and sauerkraut, everything but the beer.
Sorry to hear about Jimmy Buffett -- had he been ill?
On edit, I just heard via the announcer on the wireless that today is VJ Day, pretty significant milestone in history.
It's also National Bacon Day, so sizzle up, folks.

It’s gonna be a heatwave here as well. I’m off to breakfast with a friend. After that I’ll sit down at the coffee shop to make a grocery list, then off to the store. The last part could take a while depending on who I run into.

Good morning
69F-93F partly cloudy.
Windows open all night to gather the cool night air but I'll shut them soon to hold that coolness in. Hopefully no AC needed today but we will probably have to turn it on by tomorrow.
A few people stopping by the shop this morning and then I'll take DaWife out for an airing and lunch someplace nice.

Sunny, cool at the moment, hot weather ahead.
Trying out my new angle grinder this morning. Whilst grinding glue off the back porch floor, my Porter-Cable grinder started rattling and smoking - apparently bearings or gearbox are shot. This is disconcerting in that the grinder had only about 20 hours of use (but was beyond warranty). I'll show them - I left a negative review via the Lowe's website (directed at Porter-Cable, not at Lowe's). If it had lasted another 3-4 hours I would have been done and could have happily pitched it and hopefully never needed an angle grinder again. I now own a shiny new Metabo grinder, soon to be turned into a dusty relic.

Up and out early. Took the subaru for an oil change this morning. Walked across the road for breakfast at Oscar's. Now sitting and waiting. Will be a little longer yet. First come first served and there were 7 ahead of me when I got here.
The only reason I take it here is because every other place I've taken it, there are drips in my garage. Either they are trying to reuse the crush washer or not tightening to spec, so, I'd rather wait for it than to have to go back and get it done again.

Morning. Shocked by the news of Buffett. 76 seems pretty young, to this 73 yr old.
Went to see my primary Doc yesterday. Got a referral to Derm and some adjustment of meds. Good news on my HbA1C numbers, moving in the right direction. At this stage I’ll take all the good news I can.
Bike ride later, and I need to figure out dinner tonight, thinking maybe pizza. That’s it.

After a week of contractors coming and going around the house. Today will be a quiet one. The weather will be mild for a few days thanks to the cold front that came through. I picked up a possible second guitar student this week. Referred to me by my first guitar student. Both are adult beginners from the Pebble Creek retirement community next door.
Eric and I will meet again tomorrow and try recording the Willie Dixon tuned "I'm Ready".

At the office to do some billing work. Once that is complete I should be office work free until Tuesday morning.

Stopped by Handworks in Amana. A trade show all about handcrafting furniture / woodwork using hand tools only. Lots of handplanes and chisels and custom made hand tools to do things in hours that power tools can whip out in minutes. Roy Underhill (of the woodwrights shop fame) spoke at 10am, he is their patron saint afterall, I didn’t go to that.
Most of it falls into that “fetishism” side of things, beautifully made hand tools that I suspect will spend most of their time displayed on a shelf rather than actually making anything. Other items were 60 - 100 year old tools that cost hundreds to thousands based again on their individual cult status. If I weren’t so lazy, I might take a run at making a few brass and steel handplanes with fancy walnut and maple handles so I could charge $2900 for a 6” block plane.

In my encounters with luthiers, I noted a special fondness for old cutting tools--chisels and planes. I suspect that equivalent items are still being manufactured, but maybe very-high-quality examples are pricey. On the other hand, there is also an enthusiasm for making new tools, especially jigs and clamps and templates. And Jim Olson's outhouse-size thickness sander.

Had I known I might have attended. Were attendees allowed to sell their own precious items? I have an excellent Millers-Falls boring machine that I’d sell for a mere $1,500.

Back from my mini-road trip to the muni airport at Glencoe, MN, a most pleasant outing indeed. I sat across from a corn/soybean farmer and we both marveled at the quality and humongous size of the sweet corn they were serving along with really good brats and kraut. Some cool plane arrivals, including a Vans kit plane painted to look like a wartime P-51. I mused along Hwy. 212 that it must be a popular route to/from SoDak, as I saw a lot of SD plates. I also mused that Kia must be selling a lot of Telluride SUVs, cuz I sure see a lot of them on the road. Or maybe I just notice them more than most because of their distinctive amber running lights:

I suppose you could’ve walked around with a sign, but people signed up and paid for booths as far as I’m aware.
