I'll be working today. Labor Day, indeed. For those of you who still work and enjoy this holiday because of the work unions have done over the decades, remember why we don't work sixteen- hour shifts, 80 hours a week, with no weekends, overtime, paid time off, maternity leave,or health benefits.
Wishing everyone a pleasant day. Stay cool.

It's not all ancient history. My cousin Joann was a lawyer in Texas when that was a hard thing for a woman to be. She was involved in organizing the flight attendants in Texas. She handled a number of union-related fights over working conditions. One was whether flight attendants at American Airlines had to retire at in their early 30s when they were no longer as pretty as they had once been. That was in the "coffee, tea or me" days. I'm very fond of Joann and proud to have her for a cousin.
Enjoy your day.

Who's the artist, Howard? Is that a Depression Era painting or a modern recreation?

I did 30 songs at a gig last night. I'm getting pretty comfortable with this.
Off to play Pickleball this morning after breakfast.

Good morning. Yesterday was not a good day, when I got home from visiting the National Mississippi River Museum, I went to the refrigerator to get a cold bottle of water. The water wasn't cold! Checked the freezer, it wasn't freezing.
Cleaned out the frig, putting everything in my big freezer, portable refrigerator and ice filled coolers.
Local stores won't be open today, so I'll be shopping early tomorrow.

Another day in the Amazon. Today I get paid twice, though. Since becoming PTF, my holidays are paid. So I'm getting 8 hours of regular pay and whatever else I get for the hours worked today.
That's a Labor Day I can get into.

That's a Labor Day I can get into. It's not just the USPS, John. I have a Fedex shipment that was due last Wednesday but appeared stuck in New Jersey. I got an e-mail this morning that it arrived in Oregon last night and is now due Friday.

Good morning
71F-96F mostly sunny.
The Laborers and Attendees for the last day at the State Fair today will find it uncomfortable. Windows open and basement exhaust fan is pulling all the cool fresh air into the house. I'll turn that off and shut the house up in a while when I start the AC.
I will do a short errand this morning and then see how much shop time I can get in. Tyler says he coming by to continue work on the Seagull. Today I'll have him clean the bridge and top of all the old glue and then refit and glue the bridge. I'm working on a short scale electric Airline made by Kay for Montgomery Wards.

An old friend from grad school is visiting overnight today. He worked as a school psychologist for the Victor, NY school district while I did the same for the Hilton, NY district. When he retired he moved to Colorado, always an outdoors kind of guy. It will be good to catch up. the last time we say each other was at a Steely Dan concert at the Cayuga Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, NY in 2013.
Have good ones.

Well, this 42-year union member has the day off, appreciates it and started it off right by stopping at a Culver's just as it opened, got a wee strawberry sundae w/ granola clusters, made with the day's first batch of frozen custard and chased with a just-brewed cup of their excellent coffee. Six bucks with the military discount. Worth every farthing.

I always enjoyed Steely Dan's slow groove blues tune "Chain Lightning," but like many of their songs, had no idea what the lyrics were about.
According to a "song meaning" site the first verse is about two young German men's infatuation with Hitler and the second verse is about their fear of being discovered as Nazis.
Some turnout, a hundred grand Get with it we'll shake his hand Don't bother to understand Don't question the little man Be part of the brotherhood Yes it's chain lightning It feels so good
Hush brother, we cross the square Act natural like you don't care Turn slowly and comb your hair Don't trouble the midnight air We're standing just where he stood It was chain lightning It feels so good
