I agree wholeheartedly with what Todd and others have stated above. A couple of other observations:
It was a smaller than usual audience at the Merc on Saturday evening, but I noticed a lot of new people I hadn't seen in previous years. Perhaps the Friends of IdiotJam are are growing population.
I have heard music from IdiotJammers for many years, I know their individual styles and repertoires. This year I was amazed to hear new songs and tunes from familiar voices, on-stage and off.

I'll go ahead and make this announcement official, since the pictures are out there now. Melva started playing the accordion a year or two ago. She picked one up at a friend's party and liked it so we picked one up as a retirement present. She didn't want me to announce it here at the time since she was just beginning, even though she's played piano since forever. On the piano she was always note-bound; improv came easily on the accordion. It made Ijam that much more special to me to have her there as a musical participant.
She complained to me once about posting pictures of her playing on Facebook - she said it made her look like she could really play. I told her that's exactly the reason I post pictures of me with the guitar, so people think I can actually play it.

Melva’s accordion playing added so much to the weekend. I loved hearing it every time she picked it up. Please encourage her to keep this up.
I remember knowing that Melva was a keyboard player, still it was a very pleasant surprise when I heard her playing it. I had no idea.

There was nothing at all wrong with Melva's playing--she clearly has a pretty good idea of what works in a tune, as demonstrated by how quickly she absorbed John's "Mercantile Waltz."

As Jan will tell you, there is a big difference between an accordion and a concertina. Whether they can be in the same room together, I don’t know…

I finally got home after 1 AM thanks to American Airlines inability to keep a schedule even if it's not raining or snowing. They caused me to miss connections both coming and going because.... well I don't know why as they weren't weather or mechanical issues. Doesn't matter. I made it home with my guitar but I haven't opened up the soft case to check yet. I had a good time and enjoyed connecting with everyone again. Kinda busy today so I can't ruminate now. Laters

Whether they can be in the same room together, I don’t know… Jan admires lots of famous accordionists (such as Howard, I presume) and indeed performs with them from time to time, so they must be sub-species of the adaptable sort.

What are we looking at here, John (or Todd)?

What are we looking at here, John (or Todd)? Two upside down trash cans, one for trash, and one (probably with the yellow lid) for recycling. Why they are in front of the house, I can't say. Maybe, as I am some trash days, just too busy to drag them in yet.

I couldn't tell either until Rob said what they were. They are in front of the Horridge House, which like the depot, is owned by the Benton County Historical Society. It's supposedly haunted so para normal groups go on tours there all the time.

I took some pictures of Vinton on a walk this morning. Since there is only one person in any of the pictures (one I took for Millring), I won't post them here. But I will post a link. Pictures of Vinton, 2023I was going to comment that you need to stop posting pictures that make me look so damn fat, but as i sit here looking down at my belly, it is obvious to me that I'm so damn fat!

I look at this photo from John and what immediately crosses my mind isn't the people in the picture. My immediate thought is what a cool building this is. And that I get to spend hours in it every year.

One for my reviews scrapbook:
