Quite chilly this morning, hot coffee was/is extra good.
I'll be using my new battery powered chainsaw today to do some pruning before I hop on the lawn mower for a couple hours of mowing. We've had a little rain and with the cool weather the grass has started to grow a little. I'll still be mowing mostly weeds.

My sweet daughter's 35th.
This semester she's teaching a class on Arthurian literature in the Honors College at LSU.
Say what?
Yet somehow she is very human.

This was a favorite song to perform with Rick when we were running apres ski open mics. A real fun song to perform. Plenty rain here. No thunder.

Up and coffee. My knee is still swollen, stiff a sore. More rice therapy I guess. Derm called and set up a appointment to deal with the spot on my neck at the end of this month. So, to borrow some lyrics from Jimmy Buffett:
Souls ain't born Souls don't die Soul ain't made of earth, ain't made of water Ain't made of sky So ride the flaming circle Wind the golden reel And roll on, brother In the wheel inside the wheel

Leftover chili for breakfast -- showed those morning pills who's boss, I tellya.
Sunny but chilly here. The furnace kicked in a couple of times last night.
Hiccups appear to be history, God Be Praised.

I've been having pain in my right knee for a while so I had an appointment with the sports medicine doctor yesterday (yes, I know, the idea of this body and sports is amusing.) Got X-rays of both knees and a cortisone shot in the right knee which is, apparently my better knee. Both, however, are basically bone on bone.
Doc said I was definitely headed for knee replacements and asked if I was ready to proceed with that or wanted to try some more temporary relief. I've spent a lot of time with doctors this year so I am going to try to hold the surgery off for a while. We are going to go with cortisone and gel injections alternating. Insurance will only pay for gel every six months, so if it doesn't last that long cortisone will bridge the gap.
I know several people who have had knee replacements and done well. Any of you had one?

Any of you had one? I had a complete replacement of the right knee. For several years, the surgeon told me that it needed to be replaced. It was damaged when my knee got between two firetruck bumpers on an ill fated night as a volunteer fireman in my early twenties. Lots of soft tissue damage, and eventually, the knee needed to be replaced.
First two weeks are hell but after that, things take a nice turn and by six weeks, I wondered why the hell I took so long to get it done! I have good range of motion in the knee, and now the left knee is telling me, it may want to join the other side in feeling better!
But as they say in car lingo, your mileage may differ!

Man, what a glorious day! Sunny, 66 degrees F., low dew point, just the hint of a breeze, clear air, no haze. I'd dial up something like this if I could only have one type of weather every day.
Makes me wanna head up the road to visit my local apple orchard, see what they have on hand.

66 here, too, and dropping to 43 overnight. 43 is toss another blanket on temperature. My ankle has been excruciatingly painful the last few days but actually doesn’t feel too bad right now. I hope it lasts. I see my orthopedic specialist tomorrow. Barb is always hopeful but I don’t expect much. I do like her being hopeful, though.

Any of you had one? I going to see if I can get my right knee done this winter. Will be seeing the knee doc on the 20th. Sometimes it's not bad and I can get around fine, even golf on it. But, other times I feel like I'm Igor the hunchback as I drag my bum leg behind me. And half-way through a shopping trip, I notice I'm using the grocery cart as a walker. The knee is just not up to a long day, a long walk, or even a medium walk. My knee is going down the wrong way on a one way street. As is yours. They won't get better. And they sure as hell won't fix themselves. So why wait? Cortisone and gel are short term fixes. Especially cortisone. A new knee is good for 30-35 years. Not sure about you, but that's easily as long as I'm good for. Longer, probably. Why go out limping?

Most knee docs are now using a robotic arm thingie to assist on the job. If yours isn't, find one that is. The robotic arm does a cleaner, more precise job and recovery time is significantly shorter.
And if your doc thinks you can get by with a partial replacement with a buff and burnish, go for it. It's a good deal if the shoe fits.
According to Ma Google, satisfaction with total knee replacement surgery is 95%. That's higher than Honda.

I’m sitting here reading about knees with an ice pack on my swollen left knee. I see the knee Doc on the 19th.
