Today would have been the 91st birthday of my friend and country music mentor, Darrell Adams of Jamestown, Ohio. Part friend, part surrogate dad, the most well-read country farm boy I ever knew, and steeped in Western lore. And a great guitar player and singer. He taught me 80% of what I know about country music.
Here he is circa 1984, when he lived in Connecticut and worked at Newsweek, where we first met. Our different backgrounds and political views did not get in the way of our appreciation of music and good times.
Cherish your friends and have a pleasant day.

Good morning, folks. This morning I'll attend my usual Zoom social event. About midday I'll leave on an overnight trip to the Verde Valley, which is about an hour and a half north of here. I'll walk/hike beside a favorite stream in a place where few people go. I'll probably take some photos but mostly I'll just enjoy myself. For me, time spent in wilder places has always been therapeutic. The ability to go to such places was a significant part of what drew me to the Southwest in the first place. Now that I can drive I can make such trips again.
"Cherish your friends and have a pleasant day." A hearty amen to that!

Wish I was in the Verde Valley. Have not been there in many years. Mount Graham or the Mogollon rim would do nicely too. However, I see no 100 degree days in the 7 day forecast, so I will not complain.
Plans for today include finishing such much needed house cleaning, lunch with our social club, and this evening's choir practice.
I am taking a break from our usual Tuesday Zoom social events. People have come and gone. The character of the conversations has changed. I am now in a better mood if I don't attend. It filled a need for me during the pandemic lockdown and self-imposed isolation. Now I have plenty of in person social contact.

I have no neighbors here that I can see, save the home across the lake. It's so quiet, so peaceful this time of year. I'll putter around this morning, maybe work on a song I'm trying to write. There was a deer and a big flock of wild turkeys in my yard yesterday. The silence this morning is deafening.

Good morning
61F-83F mostly sunny.
Some breakfast, a shower and some shop time to pack up guitars. Don't know if I'll get to the post office but I'll try.
EDIT: I made beef ribs for the first time last night. While they turned out yummy they were just a tad dry. I now know to cook them at a lower temp than I cook pork ribs. Same amount of time just at a much lower temp.

All the news from gimpy geezer-land. Leg still swollen and hurts, but maybe, just a bit better. The gals had a fabulous dinner last night at Iris Agean. Nita had a grilled octopus appetizer and halibut confit on a corn sauce she said was to die for. They just now got on the ship and are having a drink at the lunch buffet with a view of the Statue of Liberty, she is pretty excited.

I hope your knee situation continues to improve, Mike. I have had knee pain. It ain't as pretty as the view of the Statue of Liberty.

They are talking real rain chances in the next few days. We could really use that.
In the meantime, I've got to agree with Cornflake and Daryll about the quite outdoor places. I know how fortunate I am to have that place right out my back door.

I envy the quiet places. My neighbors are building a new garage and today is cement pouring with a boom truck, and many loads of cement. Well, good for them. The garage needed to be replaced!
I am smoking a Boston Butt today for my daughter who is hosting a get together of folks that are planning a convention next spring. Turns out it takes a lot of pre-planning. This is my Dad contribution! Glad to do it, and I am still getting acquainted with the smoker, so it is working better today then the last couple of attempts!
Have good ones!!!

My first trip to the Statue of Liberty was with my wife and Howard. It's a memorable place.

Don and others, I envy your nearby wild places. Mine are a 4 to 6-hour drive to the east. But near future, I will have to do with some westward travels - hopefully, I will be salmon fishing and crabbing near Nehalem in a couple of weeks.

It was my first visit to Liberty Island, too!

Update on my decrepitude. The cortisone shot I had in my right knee last week seems not to have been effective. I think I may skip the gel injection and go ahead with surgery. This old age is not for wimps.

I’m on the other side of th Merrimack River. Having a grand time with Maureen. Saw a cover band called Wreck. They are a lot better than their youtubes. A duo very much reminding of my days as a Hilladelphia Philbilly. Fun. Another whole day in Burlington tomorrow. Will be strolling Church Street in the sun.
