I feel like I've done this before, but blame it on MartinFever for bringing up GV, so I am creating a thread.
Try this for a primer, if you are unfamiliar (the chord changes!):

Such an orchestral composition:

So much amazing drumming, Steely-Dan-reminiscent.

Still get Mama Cocoa stuck in my head on occasion. Don’t know why, it almost 40 years since I had that album.

Not sure what the second one was, Bill, but apparently I can’t view it in Canada, but I’m surprised you didn’t pick this one:

All kidding aside, that’s good music, William.

I'm inconsistent at best concerning the soft pop of the late 70s-early 90s. I bought everything that Michael Johnson recorded. Like Michael Franks. Bought the Richard Torrence album on the power of "Rio De Janiero Blue". Bought two Bill Labounty albums. Loved Michael McDonald and Kenny Logins and even Christopher Cross's first album.
But I didn't like that Gino Vanelli song. And because of that, I never listened to anything else from him. But the other day when I had a random play on my Prime Music, a really great song came on. I stopped my LLV so I could pick up my phone and see who it was. Gino Vannelli.

I never heard of this guy and that is not a negative thing. I find music like this unbelievably annoying. I am amazed that anyone would listen to that by choice. ugh!🤢🤢🤢 I guess it’s good for an elevator ride to the 3rd floor.

I have heard of him and have heard these tunes many time before. But it always seemed like elevator music to me.

Heard him endlessly on the radio here because he’s Canadian. Pretty much pop schlock, IMNSHO.

I surely understand why folkie-leaning forumites would not find Vannelli to their liking, but I do object to blatant dismissal of his compositions as "schlock," "elevator music," etc.
You may not like it, but it is, to my mind and ears, really impressive music in its form and execution. Plus, Gino has pipes, and all his surrounding musicians are first-rate.

No question, it’s very well played and sung schlock.

Although I never bought anything of his, my ears always perked up when I heard it.
