A while back I joked that I get wordle in one try every day... because I play it first on my phone and then again on my pc.
I just saw a clickbait headline claiming that many players cheat at wordle. I don't click on such links so I don't know how they cheat. Other than the way I joked about, how could you cheat at wordle?

I've noticed that two other forumites have opening words similar to my own. I could just let them play first and see which letters were right. (If I gave a shit about my score, that is.)

You can cheat by googling up Wordle hints. Which I don't consider cheating, because it's a game against no one. It's an individual pastime so if you want a hint or the answer go for it. As long as you're having fun how you approach it doesn't really matter.

I always start with words that have an sh, st, or ch in them. It is a given that there will be vowels, of which there are only five, so I don't worry about those at first. I could be approaching it all wrong.

I suppose you could google for a list of five letter words that contain specified letters. Why? I don't know. Bragging rights if you are into sharing?
I have on occasion asked Casper for help, but I don't regard that as cheating. We help each other on lots of things.
I am curious about choices of starting words. I use adieu because that's what my wife told me to use. What starting words do you guys use, and why? Is there any advantage, or purpose, to using a word other than adieu?

I pulled today's out on my last try, as I did yesterday. I get the most satisfaction out of getting it on the last try when I am not close but when I know enough to put on my detective hat and do some serious sleuthing. I let out a loud whoop when I Sherlock it on my last chance.

I imagine being able to start Wordle off with four words instead of just one will usually work darn well. Do you play with a couple laptops, phone, and ipad at hand?

I always use the same starting word, stare. It uses two vowels, and three of the most common consonants. If I completely strike out with stare, I follow up with cIoud for the same reasons. If that strikes out I throw a hissy fit. I also notice similarities in my and Don’s starting words

I have a set of three starting words that I have used almost since Wordle came out. They were recommended somewhere. Aloud, stern, and chimp, in that order. It gets you all the vowels but y and a lot of common letters with no duplicates.
One day I decided to break up the monotony and reverse their order to chimp, stern, aloud. The answer that day was, you guessed it, ALOUD.
I am going to select a new starting set soon from the many suggested. Tired of those three.

"I also notice similarities in my and Don’s starting words." And the one James uses. Recently his first guess was the answer. Since I'd already played and knew what the answer was, there wasn't much doubt about what word he started with.
I always use the same starting word, which I won't identify. If I used any other word I'd probably get very confused.

I too have used the same starting word from the beginning.
But for the multiple word puzzles, I figured out the three word system and came up with stern, aloud, and chimp. After a year or so, I switched to burnt, olive, and shaky.

I generally use different start words each time. Usually with different vowels than the previous day. I might use a 'Y' if it seems a while since there's been one.
I can't remember a plural being the answer so I typically avoid them. Sometimes I think that a list of previous solutions would be handy to have but it seems a bit cheaty.

"I can't remember a plural being the answer so I typically avoid them."
In the beginning, the puzzle designers said that they would not use plurals of four-letter words (e.g., "plugs," "sings"). Many things have changed since then but they still appear to avoid plurals.
