So, I swung by the big local Toyota dealer today to look at or chat about the Prius Prime. The only sales guy looked at me strange. He said, "Are you in a hurry?" I said "No." He said they get about one a year in their dealership. He said they mostly go to California. I asked if you can order one. He said they'd put your name on the wait list and when one comes in, they call the first person on the list to see if they want it.
Huh?
So, I asked about the regular Prius. He said they get about 3 in a month. Same deal; first come first served. I asked about a brochure. He said they don't print any more. It's all on-line. He said, "Pretty soon they won't need me."
I did go home and go on-line. There's a click link that will find all the Priuses (and other models) that are in stock anywhere within 20, or 50, or 100 miles. And you can make an offer.
Strange new world.
(I'm not really ready to buy anything. I was just wondering)

Our company cars are either Toyotas or Lexuses (Lexi?) - if you know where I work it's probably not a surprise. We can't order the Primes at all (Prius or RAV4 - the Prime models are plug-in hybrids), and the Mirai (hydrogen cell) is only available to people living in either LA or SF.
It's my understanding that the most popular hybrid is the Toyota RAV4, which I much prefer to a Prius.
