Sorry about the rain, Howard. We just got rid of that thing. It's a slow moving pain in the butt.

Sorry about the rain, Howard. We just got rid of that thing. It's a slow moving pain in the butt. Really storming, Marshall. Heavy rain coming from 3 directions, and several subway lines suspending service because of tunnel flooding. I hope it lightens up by afternoon. I am working from home until 1:00, but had planned to go to the Village to buy pasta at Raffetto's for tomorrow night's dinner guests, when I clock out.
Best pasta shop in town.

A foggy morning in Columbus Town. Here's one of our spectacularly-designed churches, lit up by ambient light and fog. I took a few other pics that looked cooler to my eye than to a camera's lens, so I will save them for later. This church, First Baptist, was designed by Harry Weese. Here's a picture from early in its existence. The angle's not quite the same, but it's close. The tree on the left is gone, and the tree on the right has grown considerably. hicarquitectura.com/2022/12/harry-weese-first-baptist-church/

National Weather Service just issued a flash flood warning for our area until 12:30 pm, and advises against travel "unless you are fleeing a flood zone." I am relieved to remember that out building lobby is currently 137' above sea level. We'll see what will be happening in the subways later because right now the system is shut down with 5 inches of water in some tunnels and stations.

The sun is shining here, no rain. There is beginning to be a lot of dust in the air from all the combines that are out munching up the corn and soybean fields. I'll be heading to the cabin shortly for a weekend of leaf looking, eating and music.

Morning. Up coffee and Wordle. Watching the news on the tele. Nothing but strikes, fentanyl overdoses, govment shutdowns, and Feinstein passed. The future so bright…
Headed to Kaiser labs for INR before tomorrows minor surgery. May take myself out for breakfast after. Nita comes home tomorrow night, so I will have to straighten up the house a bit before she sees what a slob I am.

We met with the orthopedic specialist yesterday. This surgery is going to be intense. There is too much too type but stem cells, removal of lots of arthritic bone, completely moving the foot to the proper location, implants of bone from cadavers, metal rods, 8 weeks of a cast,6 weeks of a boot, and physical therapy are all part of the scenario. It’s a lot to absorb, but we are tentatively scheduled for March 15. Foggy here. Cool, too. Thank God we are 875 feet above sea level. And the sea is 1000 miles away.

Yipes. It does look intense. But the improvement in quality of life could be worth the process.

Wow LJ, that dies sound intense. I hope it goes well for you. We may need to start a new cookie drive. Mike It was a lot to take in. The ankle is continuing to deteriorate so doing nothing is really not an option. I will do what I have to and get through it the best I can. I was surprised at the bone segments from cadavers part, but once he started taking about pounding metal rods up through my foot to join the foot to the tibia, I sort of forgot about dead guy bones. Then, when he got to the part about harvesting stem cells from near my knee to transplant to the ankle, I just sort of went on autopilot. I told Barb this morning, wow, I had the strangest dream. No, she said, we were actually there in the office for that.

You'll get through it, LJ. The first week will be awkward, but after that, the safely ensconced ankle will probably start to feel better in its cast than it does now. And when the time comes that you only need to wear a boot, you will feel like Tinkerbell in it as you flit sprightly about!

I read today that the Russians have authorized conscription of people from the "newly annexed" regions of Ukraine. They sighted some old Russian law that legalizes conscription from newly added territories. It reminded me that my grandfather fled what was newly named "Belarus" because the Russians were "conscripting" people from the "newly added" regions.

I have pretty intense pain 24/7 now, the surgical pain may be another ball game. It should subside and go away over time, which would be an improvement over what I have now. Barb corrected me. He said rod, not rods, through the foot. Whew! That’s a relief!

Cloudy and coolish, might see some sun later on.
Muddling about the house, shopping for a new (to us) vehicle this afternoon. More on that on a later thread. Maybe a bike ride later on.
Sad news about Dianne Feinstein, sad that she didn't retire gracefully and enjoy a retirement. I can think of lots of politicians of both major parties who ought to retire gracefully.
LJ - wishing you fortitude in awaiting and recovering from surgery. The timing is such that we shall expect your attendance at IdiotJam 2024.

The friend I'm specifically thinking about in this instance is friend factorychef. Take one brownie every four hours and keep the TV tuned to Nickelodeon.
