Cheery little tune. Love his voice.

Nice find, John. I have always liked this guy. What a wonderfully plaintive voice for the song. His half-note slides into notes are beautiful. I like the accompaniment, sort of frailing style. And the guitar work from 3:41 to 3:54 makes a wonderful ending.

I like his singing, find the guitar work undynamic, and just want to kidnap him and take him to a barbershop for a shampoo, cut and pull-back.

I like his singing, find the guitar work undynamic, and just want to kidnap him and take him to a barbershop for a shampoo, cut and pull-back. And to tell him to keep off your lawn.

I like this one, even though he's just a guest. I'm fond of all three.

I tend to agree with Bill except for the goofy stuff about kidnapping, shampooing, and hairdressing.

Bill's not the only one here who does it, but I am always confused/amused by comments about a musician's hair, teeth, weight, or other appearance characteristics. Close your eyes and listen.
(On a side note, my mother refused to buy Elvis Presley postage stamps because there was no way she was going to lick Elvis's backside.)

Damn, I never knew Johnny Depp could sing like that.
I do find the guitar playing a bit undynamic as well.

I can't image how the guitar could have any better fit the angry tone of the song.

Hhhhm. I thought his guitarwork was good. Or at least effective. He's a singer/songwriter guy. The guitar is a platform for the voice. I certainly lean that way in my playing style and preference. I will say the repetitive nature of the strumming was a little monotonous by itself. But it is just a rhythmic platform for his plaintive voice.

I just didn’t like the singer, the song, or the guitar work. Beyond that, it was ok.

I really liked it. I agree with John - the guitar accompaniment is perfect for the song. He conveys emotion simply, evocatively and effectively. I would kill to be able to perform like JPW.* Here's another version.
*I would apparently kill to perform like that, but not actually sit down and practice. But man - the voice, and the guitar, the whole package.
