Good morning.
48F-58F mostly sunny.
Saturday shop and then if I'm feeling up to it some shopping with DaWife. My shop time has been terrible this week, just not feeling good and never getting done what I want to do any day.
DaWife made a breakfast treat, fried roast beef hash and poached eggs. Add a little hot sauce, perfecto!

Good morning. It's a rainy Saturday in New York. I was busy cooking a Dutch Baby for the offspring's breakfast. It's a tasty treat:
Linda Xiao for The New York Times. Food Stylist; Hadas Smirnoff. Prop Stylist: Megan Hedgepeth
🧇
Ingredients: (Yield:3 to 4 servings)
3 large eggs, at room temperature
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup whole milk, at room temperature
1 tablespoon sugar
Pinch of nutmeg
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
Syrup, preserves, confectioners' sugar or cinnamon sugar
Preparation
Step 1 Heat oven to 425 degrees.
Step 2 Combine eggs, flour, milk, sugar and nutmeg in a blender jar and blend until very smooth. Batter may also be mixed by hand.
Step 3 Place butter in a heavy 10-inch skillet and place in the oven. As soon as the butter has melted (watch it so it does not burn) add the batter to the pan, return pan to the oven and bake for 20 minutes, until the pancake is puffed and golden. Lower oven temperature to 300 degrees and bake 5 minutes longer.
Step 4 Remove pancake from oven, cut into wedges and serve at once topped with syrup, preserves, confectioners' sugar or cinnamon sugar. (My kid likes it with a squeeze of lemon and some confectioner's sugar.)
🧇
Best pal I have known since high school (also our accountant) coming by this afternoon to play guitar. He never plays acoustic guitar, so we plug in and rock out.
Wishing everyone a pleasant Saturday.

The fall colors here are absolutely glorious, such a visual treat. I'm just back from brunch at Holman's Table, where I enjoyed a Bloody Mary made with Thai basil mix and a chaser of Urban Growler Cowbell Ale. Food was a fried egg sammich on toasted sourdough with Gruyere cheese and "cottage bacon," which is kinda like Canadian bacon, only thinner, and a nice mixed-greens salad w/ champagne vinaigrette. Didn't suck, and I'll get two more meals out of what I brought home, so almost a bargain.

Peak color.
Except for the damn ash. Really, it just dropped all its leaves overnight. One day of color, then a big dump. Can't even see the sidewalk... or the driveway.

Good afternoon. This morning I went with my wife and two daughters to tour the Lawrence Livermore national laboratory. It was pretty interesting, particularly the display at the lab where they are at the cutting edge of fusion power. We walked almost 4 hours. Then we got Mexican food. Now I’m going to take a nap. Stay well.

That’s one thing I like about Fall. All the man-made constructions of sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and streets become erased from the landscape. Nature takes over again.

My son and I ran the compactor over the gravel walkway he put in the backyard. It worked just OK. I thought it would compress it a bit more.
This evening I am cooking halibut, rice, and asparagus, and again trying to make Hollandaise from scratch. I usually find a way to curdle it, even though I have a double boiler pan.

Except that towns move right away to be sure that driveways, curbs and streets are free and clear of leaves right away.

I bounced all over Kentucky today; parts of Tennessee yesterday. I think the Jeep survived OK. Met lots of good folks, made some new friends, some in the Indy area. All of whom will try to convince me to spend some cash on Jeep upgrades. Which I don't think I will do. But I had lots of fun.

You can wind up spending more on those than on the original equipment.

You all need this site: www.quadratec.com/You can buy everything including new frames from them and build it from scratch. A couple of co-workers, local Idaho members of the global Jeep cult, were talking about a major upgrade. It involved major frame parts, like Amanajoe mentioned. A new (to the owner), larger, more modern motor. All aftermarket drive train. New body. I asked, how is this an upgrade? What's left of the supposed original Jeep? They answered, in unison, "VIN tag!"
