Underrated, IMHO.
Can't hitchhike anymore. Too many nutbars out there.
Have a great day!

First eye of cataract surgery tomorrow. A toric lens for correcting astigmatism will be inserted. Since I had lasik done 20 years ago, it doesn’t seem like such a big deal. It’s quite amazing what they can do to fix eyes.

"Since I had lasik done 20 years ago, it doesn’t seem like such a big deal. It’s quite amazing what they can do to fix eyes." Yeah. About five minutes of pain-free weirdness and you're done.
Good morning, folks. It'll be about 60-80 and beautiful here. Not much planned. Enjoy your day.

Cloudy, much rain in the coming hours and days.
Yesterday I sat outside a courtroom for four hours and never got called in to testify. Gotta go back today, where I expect to be on the witness stand all afternoon. This has caused all sorts of rearrangments of family schedules.

Rain, and high of 50. Woke up too early. May go back to bed for a nap.

Good morning.
50F-58F Cloudy
Another dark and wet day. Simon is VERY unhappy, his Summer is going away. Drain hole on the truck's sunroof is still clogged so I guess I'll have to brave the weather and give clearing it another go.

Back in my twenties I’ve hitched from Philadelphia to Boulder and California back East. For the most part ez peasy, but did get left at a rest area once half way across the country with my girlfriend. Being with my girlfriend, made it quite easy to get our next ride. Basically 3 rides to go from Philly to my apartment in Boulder.

I hitchhiked a few times in the early 70s. The last three times cured me: #3 A very high driver, smoking pot while she unsteadily drove us down I-5 toward Portland; #2 heading south on I-5 caught a ride with a heavily scarred, large man who said he had just got out of prison; and #1 getting into a hopped up Ford Maverick (yes, there was a way to make them loud and fast) with 3 teenagers who were drunk. The driver was successful in trying to scare me and my buddy with his reckless driving.

Might get our first snow event late tonight or sometime tomorrow. One set of Blizzaks on. One more to go. Plus, I need to finish planting the new tulip bed and square away the Christmas lights in case something comes and decides not to leave. Tulips get priority. I hate digging in mud.

In Italy in 1964-65, we had long weekends that allowed for traveling around, and we hitchhiked all over the place--we'd go out to the Autostrada ramps and get rides to Florence or Naples. One weekend we made it as far as Ravenna. (To get to Venice it was better to use the train.) It helped to have a girl along, though the Italians were fond of American students in general and would sometimes take us home to feed us and meet their families. The program was run by Loyola of Chicago, so half the students were from that campus. "You are from Chicago? I have a cousin there, maybe you know him?" (The other Chicago-specific response: to make machine-gun shapes with the hands and go "ack-ack-ack-ack-ack!")

It's warm and humid today and tomorrow. This might be the last two days of sitting outside and playing guitar when I get home. After tomorrow we'll have highs in the 30s and 40s over the weekend with a chance of snow. I'm not ready for this.

I once hitched from Kentucky to Boston to see a girl. Well, that was my reason. The guy I hitched with was going home. We got arrested in Columbus, Ohio, where hitchhiking was illegal. They hauled us downtown in a paddy wagon. We paid a fine and then hitched out of town. Kind of like David, we got rides from several guys who were friendly but drunk. At one point a pickup stopped for us and we were seated three abreast in the front seat with me in the middle. The driver seemed close to falling asleep so periodically I'd nudge him to wake him up. We also got picked up by a nice, sober married couple who took us most of the way through New York State.
