I just scrolled thru parts on tape. After the opening remarks I skipped Ramaswamy. He's a wild guy. Why he has to go after Haley, I don't know. Probably because she went after him in the first debate. But he loses those battles every time.
Christie sounds good, but there's too much goof-ball history for him to overcome.
Scott is awful
DeSantis is too volatile. He tries to act Presidential, but his Wild West shootout personality keeps leaking/barging through.
Haley - I like her so far. She handles herself well and says most of the right things in my book. I think she comes off the best.
I only scrolled through the first half of the debate. Anything exciting happen in the second half ?

NO! Although Haley called that weird guy—ok, the weirdest guy—scum because he criticized her daughter.

Of the Republican pool that has declared, Nikki Haley is my pick. And it is entirely plausible that I would vote for her over the current Democratic nominee, even though I pull the lever for Democratic candidates more often than Republican candidates.

Of the bunch, Haley is the only one with the "stuff" it takes to be president (a lot of the sillier crap will slough off once she no longer has to perform tricks for the base).
Don't know who I will vote for, but I do tire of being told by those that can't possibly know that I only vote for Democrats. That is not true. Several times I have voted communist. And once I voted for a dog (lost a bet with Casper). So no, I don't always just vote for the Democrat.

I have read through a whole page without a mean taunt. Is Bruce asleep? I see a target on my back.

I like her too, but that seems irrelevant. I assume we are all of the opinion that if Trump's not in jail and Biden's not dead Trump is winning in 2024?

Perhaps a bit of a questionable assumption.
Ramaswamy's a tiring little bugger. Imagining a future of never having to hear him again is a small pleasure.

No. There are too many variables to call this one now.

I liked Christi in the debate. He was the most genuine, with thoughtful responses to the questions rather than trying to show a tough side to attract, whoever that would attract. Ramaswamy struck me as an abrasive ass, similar to Trump. But at least he did not play the politician game of, "in the first week of my administration, I am going to (make money magically appear) triple the size of our military, provide mental health care to all who need it, treat drug addiction, stop the influx of illegal, drug packing aliens into the US, reduce the cost of gas and make the Saudis and other middle eastern countries do the same, reduce taxes and increase social security without modifications to the program. He also recognized that the US will have trouble fighting wars on three continents. I didn't like the guy, especially his willingness to abandon Ukraine, but he showed some practicality that was missing from all the other candidates' presentations.

To win Trump would have to win a couple states he lost while keeping every one he won. He will win every state he won last time around, but what states will he be able to grab from Biden? Arizona is his best chance to flip, but if I remember the map (I don't remember the map) switching AZ alone won't be enough. And AZ won't be an easy flip. As for the others, Georgia is lost to the R's, MI is probably going to stay Dem.
Trump may or may not do better in the popular vote, but the electoral map is pretty much set in its red/blue ways.

I don't look to David Brooks for incisive political analysis but he has a good column today about why the recent polls mean very little. Like Todd, he points out that Trumpists have lost every election since 2016.
I said there were too many variables to make a call yet. On Tuesday, our financial pros were saying that we may be headed for a recession. Not a monster like 2008-09 but a garden-variety recession. If so, that'll hurt Biden. If not, the economy is in surprisingly good shape. Nobody really has a handle on the future.

Can’t believe I actually watched it. Haley has a lot going for her, looks, poise, intelligence, experience, and pretty good at giving “the look” that can discombobulate a man.
I liked Christie’s answers best.
