I just found out that RainSong guitars is closing their doors.
That, plus apparently the Blackbird Guitar shop had a large fire and everything is destroyed.

Everything melted?
A guy on another forum has his guitar there for repairs. He is assuming the worst. Maybe they will rebuild.

Unfortunately, even with the "Heavily Discounted" clearance sale, I'm still not ponying up that kind of money for a Rainsong. The Blackbird fire is not mentioned anywhere on their site or social media pages. It was definitely their building, maybe somebody was trying to burn down openai (across the street) and got the addresses mixed up.

Emerald Guitars in Ireland is still going strong.
CF just never got the recognition. People want dead trees. Me, I don’t care as long as it sounds and plays well. And if I ever did start gigging again, it would be CF, just for the ability to survive the abuse.

They used to make trombones out of dead trees, but once they tried brass, they never went back. More durable and much, much shinier.

When I was playing guitar with the crazy guy, I used Ovations. I had a Balladeer and an Elite. One was a deep bowl & one a mid-bowl. I am not ashamed to say I loved them. I sold them 20+ years ago but I wish I still had the Balladeer. At the time, if you wanted to plug in, they were the way to go. That is no longer true, of course.

Many professional musicians used Ovation guitars, especially in the 1970s. As LJ noted, it was the way to go at the time if you wanted to plug in.
Here is a clip from a 1983 interview with a well-known bluegrass guitarist and game changer. Interesting comment about tuning issues.

And if I ever did start gigging again, it would be CF, just for the ability to survive the abuse. Over on Acoustic Guitar Forum, the Carbon Fiber forum is taken over by Emeraldies. Personally I dislike off-center sound ports. I know all the blahbitty blah about surface area for vibration. But centuries of guitar building have proven what a guitar should sound like. And center holes do quite fine. That's why I have the RainSong. It looks very much like a guitar. But it has issues for me too. I've tried an Emerald (a friend has an X20). To be honest, it's the neck profiles on all the CF guitars I've played to date that give me the most comfort problems. And there's no fix for that. Most mfrs make one (or two) neck profiles and that's what you get. I toyed with getting a Klos, because their neck is a bolt-on. And I could go to a luthier and have a wooden bolt-on neck made for it to my specs. But when it came, I didn't like the sound enough to invest in the big change, so I returned it.

Yeahbut, wood has environmental problems.
I liked that Composite Acoustics made CF guitars with braces. I think bracing contributes to the vibrational response of guitars. I note that my RainSong (with no braces) has a lot more sustain that any wood guitar I've played. Some people would like that. For me it's a slight negative. The guitar is too even for my playing style. Not enough punctuation.
My present thinking is I might keep the RS, for inclement conditions. That's the reason I got it. But little things about it irk me. But it's playable. And I can put any pickup in it I like.
There's a Joytar video cartoon that shows it being molded and the vid gives the impression that there are braces cast into the top. When it came there were no such braces. Just a flat top. I sent it back.

And they are made from wood. Mike When you’re playing through a pickup, probably some kind of modelling software, it really doesn’t matter if it’s made out of dried buffalo turds.

Played the hell out of that thing. But it was starting to have a few neck issues. Ran into a guy a few years back who’d had a restore done on an old deep bowl steel string, and it was pricy. Not quite like doing a neck reset on a wood guitar.
