Good morning and welcome to another week.
Yesterday my son-in-law Gene completed an Ironman competition. He'd been training more or less forever. Before the event arrived, he was already looking forward to never doing it again. I couldn't understand ever doing it in the first place.
We'll have 50s-70s today. No complaints on that score. Other than a fairly perfunctory doctor's appointment I have nothing scheduled. But plenty to do.
Here's a terrific old song, in my view, that has nothing to do with Monday.

Good morning.
38F-44F cloudy.
Grandsons Tyler and Sam came by last night and moved our old washer and dryer out of the way to make way for the new units arriving soon. I'll spend some time cleaning up the areas that were impossible to get to while the old units were in place. Then shop time before a well earned nap. DaWife is back to work this week and by being gone for a week she gets surprise problems for being gone. I'm hearing a lot of loud WTF? She has less than 6 months to retirement now and looking forward to not knowing what day it is and what time her shift starts.

I’m up, craving some lox and a bagel for some reason. Closest I can come this morning is p-nut butter and toast. Oh well. Picked up some fabulous wine yesterday. 2021 Terra Vina Cab Franc, beyond scrumtious. Well worth the twenty minute drive to Mac to pick up. Today is house cleaning and making sure we are set for hosting thanksgiving.

We decided we aren't going anywhere for T day this year and no one is coming to us. So instead of turkey et al I'm going to make some pizza dough Wed night and we'll be using the grill and a stone to make some small foofy homemade pizzas for the big day.

Good morning. Today is a day to review my finances and pay some bills. After that I'm taking my bike to the bike shop for a tune up and repair of a tire. Blew the tire out yesterday on my bike ride. Cut a corner too sharply and caught a hole in the pavement by a curb. Weird sort of mishap. Anyway, after that it's shopping for Tday supplies, guitar playing and this evening it's USA vs Trinidad Tobago in Concacaf Nations league soccer. Have a great day everyone.

Saw a friend (who recently moved away) perform in a little town, Bishop Hill, in IL last night. Nice to see Bruce Moon again. 2:45 drive away from home for me. Bruce said I should talk to the owner, whom I met there, about playing a gig. Interesting place; Bishop Hills Creative Commons. Reminds me of the Mercantile in Garrison. But there were 27 people in the audience. And Bruce's friends were about half the crowd. I don't think anybody I know would drive that far to see me, and the locals didn't come out in large enough numbers to warrant the drive. The pay is good, though. Still very nice to see and hear Bruce again.

Clean up pretty much done in the laundry area. Now for some shop time.
I wanted something for T-Day that was different, not expensive and could be enjoyed by all 4 of us. Kaiah being a Pescatarian will eat seafood so I think it will be Lobster Mac & Cheese, 2 veggies and Cheddar Bay biscuits followed by French Silk pie, the girls choice. DaWife and I will have a small glass of bubbly and I'll get some carbonated white grape juice for the girls.

I heard via radio that the majority of people this year will be going out to eat or buying a prepared Thanksgiving dinner to bring home because it is easier than cooking. I don’t know if I believe that but, I guess, it isn’t all that surprising. To me, the smells filling the house from turkey, dressing, etc., are pretty enjoyable. But, we go to a relative’s house now and it is not the same. I don’t enjoy it like I used to when I did 90% of the cooking. And they just do a turkey breast instead of a whole bird which I also don’t enjoy. Maybe I am getting grumpy, but it ain’t the same! Humbug!

I went bird hunting (pretty much just hiking) for the last week around Juntura, Oregon with my old friend and prior Pioneer Music Store proprietor. A lot of exercise, great views, and good company. Aside from the landscape views we saw 18 big horn sheep.
Now it is catch-up time at the office.

We've been going out for TG for years now, except for the Covid years when we could pick up a take-out version. There are still several TG buffets in town, but I have yet to see a buffet that was cost-effective for a small-meal eater. Fortunately, there's a good place nearby that maintains a sit-down dinner, so that's where we'll be. And we'll take home about half of what they serve us. As much as I've always enjoyed big ceremonial meals, it has also always been the leftovers I've liked best. I'm pretty sure that at our regular places we're known as the old couple that brings their own take-home containers for the leftovers. (And the containers themselves are recycled, reuseable food packaging. We're such a pair of oddballs.)

I never eat turkey for Thanksgiving but a few times a year I will buy a turkey, cook it and set the whole thing out to feed my cats and whatever else come around. Last week they got a 15 pound turkey at .90 a pound with is cheaper then some of the cat food I buy. Over my years working in restaurants and hotels I'm sick of turkey. I'm making rare Prime Rib and watching football and not be around anybody that day.PS,a special brownie or two for desert.

Russell, who are you calling oddballs? Mr. H and I also bring our own takeout container and we qualify as an old couple.
We will not, however, be going out for Thanksgiving. Today we bought everything to make a traditional turkey dinner and sides. Not a lot of sides because it will just be the two of us. The turkey is in a cooler in our atrium. It will feed us for a couple of days after the holiday and the remains will go into meal size portions to freeze.
I also managed to get laundry done today and deal with a very unfriendly website. Unfriendly websites wear me out.
Then this afternoon I got some finance committee stuff to review before the HOA board meeting that starts in less than 3 hours. Too late. I won't be looking at it except for obvious errors. They can fire me.

A megachurch in our town sponsors a free Thanksgiving meal at a community center. I think people from other churches also volunteer.
Everyone is welcome. You can come in and sit down, drive by and pickup meals to go, or those who need it can get meals delivered.
I've never gone to it but friends have and say it is great.
We have gone to restaurants for Thanksgiving several times and have bought the complete takeout Thanksgiving feast a couple of years.

They can fire me. When serving in volunteer roles I have been known to tell complainers that if I am not volunteering to their satisfaction all they have to do is let me know.
