…. Or warning maybe. BUT on Reverb Franklin Guitars is blowing out white and butterscotch Mexican Fender Acoustisonic Telecasters for $499 delivered. In factory box no warranty. That’s maybe 40-50% off.
From the ad:
FGW is a division of MIRC, LLC (Musical Instrument Reclamation Corporation), located in Franklin TN. MIRC is the world’s largest refurbisher of stringed instruments. We partner with the leading manufacturers in the industry, helping them recondition their distressed instruments. Yeah, I've been looking at those. But I would prefer one of the Highway models (acoustic-electric) rather than the Acoustisonics (electric-acoustic). But for only $500...

If their certified technicians have checked them out, that’s better than what Fender does.
I know 5 guys that have had problems. 3 sent them back for another one.

Mike I went ahead and ordered one of the acoustasonic demos or whatever they are. I'm speculating but it almost looks to me like a backdoor way for Fender to dump dead stock. I have a 7 day return period so we'll see. I suspect I will regret it and feel dirty after I get it. But after seeing a local busker guy using one and sounding good I've been curious and that price was down and....uh....dirty.

I think you're right - Fender overestimated the demand for the cheaper ones. It IS the one (of the Acoustasonics) that appeals to me, though (specifically the mustard yellow formica they call butterscotch)...

What does it say when there is an entire company that specializes in "refurbishing" Fender's "Mexican factory" guitars? It begs the question, how many of their guitar coming directly off the assembly line need to be "refurbished".

I can’t find any description of just what they do. Do they mean repair, replace defective parts, and return to factory specs or do they mean upgrade and set up?

I think it's verbiage that's cover for Fender wanting to dump excess inventory for year end. I'm guessing I'm getting a "new" guitar at half price or something approaching dealer cost. The guitar will still probably suck though

The guitar will still probably suck though Gibson use to do that by marking them as "Factory 2nd" and then offering them to dealers at large discounts if they bought a certain number of them. Because of that large discount Gibson franchise dealers could make more profit on the 2nds than factory 1st guitars. Good way to clean out that factory stock room.

When you look at the astronomical number of guitars out there for sale, they should be a whole lot cheaper.

As surmised, this company specializes in inventory liquidation. These are all new items that Fender has decided won't sell, so they sell them in bulk to this liquidator. BUT they don't carry the "new" warranty.

I know 3 guys that sent theirs back for a different one because something wasn't right. I imagine those end up being sold like this.
Of course if somebody looks them over and fixes the inconsistencies, then they would be better than factory new.
One guy (who didn't send his back) plays in our church band. At practice one evening, all of a sudden the pickup started distorting wildly. he turned it off. Strummed a chord, and the thing still rattled. He looked down, and the pickup was loose and vibrating in it's socket. He shoved a folded piece of paper between the pickup and the body cavity, and that stopped the pickup from rattling in the pocket, and that temporarily solved the problem.

I have tried to find these on Reverb with no success. Maybe I just don’t know how to look them up.

I have tried to find these on Reverb with no success. Maybe I just don’t know how to look them up. They appear to be sold out or it was just a short term cyber Monday thing. When I put both the white and baby s**t yellow one on watch it said something to the effect of "188 people have this in their cart" for both colors. I'm guessing they blew out a few hundred of these over a few days.
