Not no more. . .
I ordered something from Amazon. A CF guitar actually. Cheap. And it was supposed to be delivered today. Except it came yesterday while I wasn’t home. The Amazon seller required someone to receive it. But not just someone to sign for it. It needed a security code password that they had emailed to me. I had never heard of that before. So the guy left.
I got a text. Said he could come by again at the end of his route. I responded “OK”
He shows up during dinner. We spend 10 minutes trying to get his electronic tracking device to allow him to deliver the package. The box has my name and address correct. I can prove that I’m me. I have the right tracking number from my account. But somehow my security code is not matching his device. He said I could give him the last 4 digits to a phone number he had in the device, except that number was not my phone number (which he had already texted me at). Then finally his device timed out and he had to walk back to the truck with the guitar box. He apologized and said he’ll have to try again the next day with new codes.
I said, “OK, but I’ll be out in the afternoon.”

That sounds pretty crazy. I have had signature required packages delivered-guitars, amps, wine- and none required more than me scribbling my name on an electronic device with my finger. Some signature required stuff was left on the porch and, when I checked tracking, I found that I somehow signed for it even though I was not home. I have powers beyond my imagination! One package was left and I opened the door as the delivery woman was walking down the drive. “I signed for you,” she said over her shoulder.

Those days are gone ! Its a Brave New World. It may be like that old Kingston Trio song and the guitar will continue to ride that truck unable to get off.

Well it didn't come this morning. I'm heading out the door in a few minutes. I printed the new Delivery Password for Susan, and all the tracking info. Hopefully she'll be able to handle the transaction whenever the truck pulls up.

I don't do well with Fender necks. Well, today's Secret Password Code worked. A different Amazon guy came to the door a couple minutes ago and the transaction proceeded without hitch. I'll let the cardboard box warm up before I open it up and check it out. Probably tomorrow. I'm getting ready to head out to a brand spanking new open mic in a brand new place that just opened up in Forest Park. Owned and run by a guy who is a big local promoter of local music. Robert's Westside.

Alert readers may recall TKennedy's retelling of the time at Kafe 421 in the dead of winter when the topic meandered to CF guitars, and I offered to show Terry mine, went out to the car, pulled it out of the trunk, brought it into the restaurant and extricated it from its case. The guitar was immediately covered in icy condensation, but was in tune and played perfectly. Made an impression on TK.

Why wait? It's not a wood guitar. Couple reasons: 1. I just plain didn't want to deal with it yet. 2. I had to get ready for the mini-gig. 3. I needed a quick nap. 4. I needed to eat dinner, and talk to my wife before heading out.

... 3. I needed a quick nap. ... Leave out the 'quick' part, and that's one of my go-to things to tick off on the daily list.

I do have the house humidifiers cranking pretty solidly, and it was only 17 deg outside, so I didn't need to tempt condensation if I wasn't even going to play the thing.
My first impression on it is very good. I opened it up last night after I got back from the open mic. It sounds guitar-like. The scale is nice. The neck profile is not ideal (there are shoulders on the sides of the neck. But I might be able to be comfortable enough with them). Interestingly enough there are X-braces on the underside of the CF top. And a center sound hole, so I could mount a Mag pickup. The neck cantilevers over the top above the 14th fret. It's not a toy. It's a decent little guitar. The same body shape as a GS-mini.
I'll have to play with it a little. But it could be a keeper.

Who makes it? Is it the Joytar I see advertised?

A local musician is thinking about buying a CA Cargo, and asked on facebook if anyone had one locally that he could try out before deciding. I replied that I had one he could try; after all, Dennis let me play his (formerly Doug's) before I made the decision to get one. Turns out he's going to be at Mr. Reynolds' shop this afternoon, so it's a short trip for him to drive out here afterwards.

Who makes it? Is it the Joytar I see advertised? No, it's an Enya X3 Pro Mini.
I actually ordered the Joytar J2 about 6 months ago and returned it. I didn't like it. This Enya is much better. It's the size of a GS-Mini. The action is too high, but there's a truss rod for adjustment and the saddle sits quite proudly above the bridge so there's room to set it up nicely, I expect. The Enya sells for $399. But the crazy Amazon Black Friday deal was 20% off. So it was $320. And free shipping and free returns if you don't like it. Hard to pass up.

Crazy price!
China has taken over the CF market, to be sure. That is certainly the case with our big water-fed poles. All Chinese these days.
