Gruhn Versitar Adirondack / Mulberry , New, Adirondack spruce top, mulberry back and sides, LR Baggs HiFi pickup, w/ clear pickguard, black or grey Gator heavy duty gig bag ... MAP $2,900.00
A guitar made from that most cursed of trees? Probably available in sunburst, too. Berry sunburst, perhaps?

I played one on Halloween. I even took some pictures for you all but failed to post them. But if anyone remembers Tacoma guitars, but wish they could pay 4X for one, I have a guitar for you.

I saw a picture yesterday of Vince Gill playing one on the stage of the Grand Ol’ Opry. Gruhn bought the rights to Tacoma guitars and set up shop to build high quality versions of them. I haven’t played one so I don’t know about that. He has posted a lot of photos with famous Nashville pickers playing them. Endorsement deal? No idea.

It has a big fat nut and saddle, for sure.

I didn’t notice how thick the nut was. Yow!

Vince and his bandmates seem to have a great time:

The Tacoma guitars were nice for the money BUT!, offset sound holes can make for real repair problems.

Yeah, they put the soundhole in a cockamamie place. Sunburst of no sunburst, I'm not interested.

Yeah, they put the soundhole in a cockamamie place. Sunburst of no sunburst, I'm not interested. I thought the fact it was made of mulberry wood would be all it would take for you to order. How about if they throw in a pound of the berries? I have never heard of mulberry wood being used for guitar bodies before. It seems strange to me. You can cut down those trees near you and send the wood to George so he can build a Marshall signature edition.

I recall watching a video a while back where they were interviewing some folks at the new shop Gruhn was setting up to make these. They briefly played one of the prototype guitars there were working on. It didn't impress me at all.
I did own a Tacoma parlor guitar years ago that I liked, but it was a normal soundhole guitar. The offset sound hole idea does have its fans though (like the McPherson guitars).

Sustainable growth wood??? Mulberry is not only sustainable, it’s impossible to kill. When everything else on earth is extinct, all new life forms will evolve from mulberrys and cockroaches.

Sustainable growth wood??? Mulberry is not only sustainable, it’s impossible to kill. So then how do they make a guitar out of it? I’m imagining little branches or leaves popping out of it.

It leaves a mulberry juice stain on everything it touches. To me it is like making a guitar out of a huge weed.

And along comes Tordon. I walk around my property every year like an executing all kinds of mulberry trees. It does not, however, seem to have an impact on cockroaches. Or banjo, for that matter.
