Good morning. We're expecting about 50-76F and sunny. I think I'll attend the main service at church for a change, even though it's too ceremonial for my taste. This afternoon I'll smoke a chuck roast. I have it down to a science now and although I can screw anything up, I don't think I'll screw that task up.
Keep on the sunny side.

Off to the Amazon.
Still mystified by the difference in the Faridas. The nut height and the height of the strings at the 12th fret seem to be identical, but even when I'm putting the capo on at he second fret, I can see that the strings seem to be much further from the fretboard on the 64 than on the 22.

That sounds to me like the nut slots may a tad too high. Maybe the nut was cut for light gauge strings without sufficient margin to support medium strings.

The thing you need is a set of nut files. And the solution isn’t to cut the slot deeper, but just widen the slots slightly.

Good morning, all. I'm off to church in a few minutes. I'm playing mandolin in the service, then using a guitar in Sunday School class. I may not be very good, but at least I'm useful.

And the solution isn’t to cut the slot deeper, but just widen the slots slightly. I might start less drastically by changing to light strings. That wouldn't matter to me anyway. I have the mediums on there because I happened to have had about 2 dozen sets of mediums around (also, I wanted the same strings on both guitars for tone/sound comparison back when I first got the 22).

I'm up. Only one church service today instead of two and it's our cantata at 10:00. I have to be there at 9. There are 11 solos, which is more than half of the regular choir. We have some extra people too. I'm not worried about my solo. I only hope that a miracle occurs and the 3 people who can't seem to figure out when to come in on their solos can figure it out today. We are only amateurs, except for those who have sung professionally.

It came with light gauge strings. Did you change to medium? If so, you may need a truss rod adjustment or to go back to light gauge strings. Joe set them up for lights—nut slots and truss rod. He did the slots to accommodate EJ-16s or their equivalents. You can file the nut slots as Paul suggested. Easy adjustment. Put a capo on the 1st fret, hold the 6th and 3rd down where neck meets the body and see what the relief is at the 7th fret. A 1/4 turn of the truss rod will probably make a big difference if your relief is a bit too much. Another rainy, funky day here.

I used one of them once to lower a slot that I figured was too high. . . . , it turned out badly. I gave the files to Marty.

I have done it but, as with most guitar adjustments, a little is a lot—sometimes a WHOLE lot. Proceed slowly & with care, checking often. Or go back to lights.

So measure them. There is more than one way to achieve the same action height. Start with how much relief is in the fingerboard.

I used one of them once to lower a slot that I figured was too high. . . . , it turned out badly. I gave the files to Marty. A complete "set" of files is a lot of file sizes but most people only need a string gauge set of 6 at the most as E and B strings can be done with the same file if you know how to use them. I have several complete sets as I've replaced or have been given files over the years. New files cut real fast and need a careful hand to use. String nut files cut a rounded bottom slot and can be rotated side as you file to make a slightly wider slot. So the same set of 5 files can do both medium or light strings. Maybe I'll do a "How To" post on Set Up and Tools later today.

Morning. I have four lbs of salmon soaking in a brine since yesterday. This afternoon I’ll put them on the smoker for a few hours, then I’ll vacuum pack and freeze them for gifting for Xmas. It will make my daughter very happy.
Some grocery shopping this morning, and that’s about it. Can’t believe Xmas is in less than ten days. Time flies.

Good morning. Cool day, yesterdays storm is slowly turning into a chilly Florida day. The gunners are up 1 - 0 on the gulls. Hopefully that will holdup up. Have good ones folks.

A heavy overcast today but the drizzle has stopped. I need to review the set list for our next gig and the spenf a little time with the guitar. I left my bass at Phil's, so I won't be practicing with it.
While in Florida I played an old Strat that was badly in need of a setup, it's nice to get back to my guitars.
