Happy winter solstice. It'll be a short day with slightly less than ten hours of daylight here.
We're supposed to meet with a guy from the tree service company to discuss trees that need trimming or removal. Unfortunately we have a lot of business for him this time around.
Enjoy the day to the extent you can.

Nice weather today for being the shortest day. Nothing going today. I bought a new Taylormade driver so I may go hit a bucket of balls to break it in. But no driver can really launch an entire bucket of balls. Wordle 915 4/6

Temps around freezing for the winter solstice with a brown Christmas ahead.
Just got home from tending to twins whilst their Mom works and their Dad took big sister to school. Third day in a row of doing this. Our son, a campus cop, usually works second shift but had a two-day in-service on grim topics, including how to deal with media and the legal system if you shoot someone, and how to respond to an active shooter in a parking deck. Such things keep a father awake at night.
Muddling about the house today, some unavoidable shopping, and more child care later on, trading off with the other Grandma.

Good morning. No possums for me last night. It's a cool sunny morning here in Florida with a very nice day in the low 70's predicted. I've got bills to pay and guitars to play. Have good one's people.

Beautiful morning here in Iowa!
Wrapping up loose ends before Christmas, that includes buying a Christmas ham and a Christmas beef roast. I'll probably pick out some exotic cheese too. Weather looks good for traveling throughout the holiday's, so that's a plus.
Onward!

Morning. Coffee is ready, i need to pour a cup. One more rain free day before the next system rolls in. May have to run over to Freddie’s/kroger for some items this am. Watched It’s a Wonderful Life last night. “Attaboy Clarence.”

Where are Howard and LJ? Have they been abducted by aliens?

I escaped the clutches of Alien captors and I am hiding in the root cellar. Last I saw Howard, they were strapping him to a metal table. At least I am free. That’s all that matters. Damn, those nose probes really hurt.

The rain that has been causing floods in California will be here tonight. We'll have a few days of wet and cold(er) weather.
Got most of our grocery shopping done yesterday, but will pick up a few fresh items on Saturday at a smaller and friendlier store. Lunch with our social club today. My choir sings on Sunday at both the morning service and the evening candlelight service. One of the things that I dislike about being in choir. So we will have our traditional Christmas Eve snacks and wine a day early or not at all. Christmas dinner will consist of Thanksgiving turkey from the freezer and a few sides. No more shopping. Presents are under the tree.

Someone had to be sacrificed to save me and Howard was handy.

Good morning.
30F-40F cloudy.
Got a LOT of shop time in yesterday without totally wearing myself out. One of my favorite things to do is handmake a bridge from a blank of wood and have it look like an original. With the advent of CNC that has gotten a bit more challenging.

My job teaches me so much every day. Today I learned about this Southern tradition:
If you want to have luck in the new year, you absolutely must eat black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. And if you want to have any money, you also had better eat your greens.

Although braised bacon with bacon is muey bueno.

Add some nice baking powder biscuits and the table is complete.

Playing my last gig of the year today. We are playing a memory care facility on the south side of Milwaukee. These folks may have dementia but they are still able to sing along to the “Beer Barrel Polka” and the “E-I-E-I-O Polka.” Playing these facilities this year has brought me so much joy. It also would have been Lar’s and my fifth wedding anniversary. Kind of a bittersweet day, I guess. Although, in my heart I know that Lar is up there smiling from ear to ear knowing that I am still out there playing music and bringing some joy to others. I really miss him.

But I forgot the greens.

What I quoted was atop a recipe for a gratin containing black-eyed peas and Swiss chard. On edit: "braised bacon with bacon" sounds really good!

I'm southern and we observe the black-eyed pea tradition. I'd never heard the part about greens.
