I got a call from a teacher who is also a very good friend from a school I used to visit frequently last week asking for a favor. A little third grade boy whom I know is having a hard year, poor kid, to make a long story short he's got a very messed up family. Could Santa visit?
I could to it last minute but didn't have much time so it was decided that Santa would stand on the sidewalk outside the school and call the kid on the phone. The teacher changed my name on her phone to Santa, I stood outside the school and called, and the kid answered the phone. The kid was so excited, and we didn't talk about what he wanted for Christmas (he's probably getting an Oreo cookie or a marble or a used crayon) but we did talk about what he would like the world to have for Christmas. He wanted for everyone in the world to be warm. All the kids piled up at the window, the phone got passed around, and the general consensus among the third graders is that the world needs more blankets and orange juice. It was a great time for the kids and selfishly, it was a great time for me too.
That was Thursday. I got a text from the teacher on Friday:
Thanks so much, the kids thought it was great! **** *********, the librarian, came up at the end of the day and said she saw you and thought it was some strange man scoping out school kids, taking pictures. Since you really weren't on school property, she asked **** ***** and others and of course no one downstairs knew about it. They took pics of you and your car and everything! I don't know if you noticed the police driving by or not, (I didn't) but they were checking you out. I guess I should have informed more staff.
Anyway, it was a BIG HIT. THANK YOU AGAIN for making the kids day and hopefully keeping the Christmas magic alive in their hearts!
