I made it, too, though my hypocondraic self is convinced I am getting the whatever Erin had last week. But, Hoppin' John consumed, along with some greens, for good luck. Spiked nog also consumed, even though the booze was very present in the taste profile. Time for bed.

Happy New Year to all. The fireworks at midnight rivaled the display most towns have on July 4th. The sky was filled with flashing color. Looks like 1/2 an inch of snow fell overnight. Have a nice, peaceful, and quiet day.

Happy New Year to all of you! Here's hoping it's a good one for all of us.
We didn't party last night but we'll go to one this afternoon when I'll find it easier to stay awake.
I started the year by making a dumb guess in Wordle, one that had a letter in a spot where I already knew it couldn't be. Things have to improve.

Lovely wife woke up irate about the fireworks last night. Apparently one neighbor called the police. But it's legal. About ten years back we had a Speaker of the state House whose day job was operating a fireworks stand near Sierra Vista. Laws were passed that prohibited cities and towns from restricting fireworks at specified times, including New Year's Eve. Shrug.

The AdAmAn club climbs Pikes Peak every December 30/31 and sets off fireworks to welcome the New Year. That's 60 miles away but we have a direct view and can see the show.
Or, more accurately, we could see the show. If we were up.
Happy New Year.

When I said the fireworks rivaled official town displays I was not kidding. We watched thousands of dollars explode last night.

Good morning. Hopefully it will be a happy New Year, but I am very apprehensive about what lies ahead. We'll see.
On a lighter note, last night was a rough one for Dax the whippet but the fireworks ended around one and this morning he's camped out at the living room window scoping out the neighborhood. All is well on that front. Nothing planned for today except blatant laziness. Have a great day everyone.

Happy New Year to all. It was fun watching the Packers destroy to Vikings yesterday. Maybe the best game they played all year.
Nothing going on this first day of 2024.

Good morning and Happy New Year.
20F-31F mostly cloudy.
Quiet night last night. I surfed YouTube and DaWife found a Fred Astaire movie marathon to watch.
Today will be kitchen clean up, a client at 11:00 and then we'll hit Sam's Club, PetSmart, Office Max and in between a little place called Vietnam Star for lunch. Then back home for a nap and tonight's dinner will be Crab Legs with a nice side dish.
78 Days Until Spring.

... we'll hit Sam's Club, PetSmart, Office Max and in between a little place called Vietnam Star for lunch. I'm surprised all those places are open today. I've eaten at Vietnam Star -- good spring rolls and eggrolls. The football game was brutal -- anyone have a QB we could borrow?

Good morning, Soundhooligans. I was just thinking about the year; it's 2024. So much time has passed in our collective memories—come this May 25, my father will have been born 100 years ago. A century. It's kind of a staggering number to me this morning and, I suppose, most other times. And then in terms of the universe, it's just the blink of an eye.
Also, I have been acquainted with many of you since April 2001, about as long as I have known my wife.
This afternoon I'll be riding the subway into Manhattan to the home of my best friend from high school, electric guitar in tow, for our annual January 1st jam session and dinner. Today is his birthday. He was born the same day that Hank Williams died. We have been friends since October 1969. He is moderately reclusive, is not in possession of a wealth of friends, not in the greatest of health, and a confirmed bachelor. Guitar is what brought us together as teen-age friends, and I hate the thought of him being alone on his birthday. So I pop over there every New Year's Day to hang out, rock out, and dine out. This is a good way to ring in the new year without getting hammered and staying up way too late.
Tomorrow, sadly, it's back to the unflinchingly boring office where, upon being hired 17+ years ago, I committed the equivalent of career suicide. At least it has paid the bills, but the psychic cost of being treated like a kindergartner by religious zealots who have no idea about publishing has been the biggest bill to pay. However, come April I will be a free man in Paris.
Have a good year, everyone. Start with a good day today.

Morning I’m up and started off 2024 with a Wordle fail. Phfft. I consoled myself with a slice of Nita’s pumpkin roll. So good. We were in bed by 10:30 last night, and I slept through the fireworks. Yay me. We will ring in the new year with a late champagne brunch of hash browns, bacon and eggs. Sometime today we will take the Xmas tree down, and maybe the lights outside.

Happy New Year to all. We're cold by my standards, low 40s but the sun is out anyway. My slightly older sister who married a Swede and lives in Sweden had a stroke Saturday and I'm waiting to hear from her husband how she is doing today. She was able to speak a little yesterday but couldn't answer questions. My sisters don't really talk to me because I'm conservative and they're hard core Democrats. I tried to find out if my little sister knew about the older sister's stroke. One of my nephews said he's tell her. Meanwhile I found out the younger sister's husband died recently. We're not a close family by any stretch. It all has taken some of the "Happy" out of New Years. I hope 2024 gets better quick. Hope y'all stay healthy.
